what does everybody else reckon, the guy has good hands, good contested player, mobile, strong and pretty good below the knees, i think floating him across chf for a while to give us a target during games could help... i dont think dean bailey swings the backman forward often enough

Have never thought about Joel Mac as a forward but it's not the worst idea - we know we'll get a 100% contest every time the ball's in his area.

I don't hate it, but surely we have too many of his height and build up there already! Has he played forward before? I'd be more inclined to play Rivers down there before JMac. Rivers has a bit more height and reads the ball well.

Wouldn't have thought so.

And don't think J Mac has a creative bone in his body so HFF probs isn't gonna work.

J-Mac HBF, Tappy forward.
Kinda what I made the observation thread for...

Jurrah, Watts, Bate, Petterd, Green are all playing this week. Dunn played last week. Howe might play soon. I feel if we are breaking down across half forward I'm not sure what more Joel Macdonald could do to help. Another reason to not rotate backs into the forward line is that it means you have to rotate another player out of position, and we've struggled with rotating forwards to the midfield, forwards to the backline (Dunn last week) and midfielders to the backline (Jones earlier in the year).

Sadly you're fighting a losing battle there.

Meanwhile Joel Mac = 98 games, 6 goals so I hope you're not expecting him to contribute on the scoreboard.

Tactically you could play him in the forward line as a stopper on Goddard if he plays down back? Looking for him would keep Goddard honest and I would back Joel mac to at least bring the ball to the ground.

Joel mac matches him well for size and would be able to follow him on to the ball and of course forward which probably makes him the best suited match-up.

started up forward guys and was ok in the first qtr

Seems like he did start forward on Goddard and had a few touches early, but I think after the Tapscott injury he was moved back and Bate replaced him up forward.

He's a bit of a nothing player I'm afraid. Gives a decent contest but lacks skill and composure with the ball.
