Who is he and what sort of Player is he, he was the MYSTERY MAN according to the afc.com.au website!!
We weren't gonna really do the McLeod deal were we??He is from Brisbane and we weren't going to trade away picks apparently, Brisbane weren't that keen on anyone we have!!
Thoughts??

Played pretty well for the Lions in the latter part of the season. Initially as the third key defender but as Leppitsch and Michael disappeared he assumed more responsibility. Looks like a pretty good athlete.

Was he on our rookie list at one stage?

He was hardly a great Mystery man though.

He would be a depth player here.

Schammer's disposal is awful. If he gets his disposal right then he'll be a great player.

Would be a decent acquisition in the PSD but I don't know if he'd fall to us.

since joel has put on about 15kg of muscle in brisbane, he has been a solid addition to their backline. when he played at norwood he was a FF/CHF. loved a hanger and could kick goals.

i wouldve been happy with a trade of patful for skipworth for instance.

I am a huge fan pf Pattfull's and I think he would be a good addition to the squad, having seen him play at Norwood for many years he would certainly add something to the team.

However in all honesty the Crows have ignored him for years even last year when Brisbane got him at the end of the draft, clearly thinking he was not up to it then 12 months later he becomes there mystery man. So is Fanta now admitting he has made a mistake over the last 4 years? He even trained with them at one stage.

I have to admit that I'd written Patfull off as a possibility for us in the pre-season draft after Russell signed with Carlton, as Port have been showing interest in him as well.

However, now that Harry Miller has been de-listed and training with Port, our chances of getting him in the PSD seem to have improved, as port would be a good chance to take Miller.

I hope so. Not that I think that Platfull will be our saviour or anything like that, but he would be a handy tall, given that is where we are light on. :thumbsu:

Why would you choose Platfull ahead of Gill? Because he has been in the system?

And what exactly makes Gill the AFL player? His skill level is well below what you would expect from an AFL footballer. He has already had 2 opportunities at the AFL level and didn't make it.

At least Patfull has played some AFL football, is younger and more skilled than Gill.

No, he has just developed a lot since joining Brisbane. :thumbsu:

Unfortunately for the rest of us, it's wankers like you who are next to illiterate and make "knobhead" calls like Adelaide needing Byron Schammer that drag the IQ level of our supporters down. I assume the keyboard that was delivered with your computer lacked a "shift" key?

Spending several years watching the Norwood juniors a few years back, I can vouch for Patful being a gun. I recall one year he kicked 120 goals + in a season for the 17's, however, from what I've seen, very raw at AFL so far. Would have given a draft pick to bring him home.

Patfull appears to be a run of the mill big (but not too big) player, similar to a number we already have (Bock, McGregor, Stevens). These guys are solid, but will never win a game of football or a premiership off their own boot. The Crows are fine for backmen. All of the above are really backmen, but are put forward because the Crows have nothing else.

Gill has an x-factor about him and can split a pack at CHF and not need to run to the pockets or wing (like Bock/Stevens) and can jump and give that little extra (unlike McGregor). The Crows miss Hentschel badly, because he is the only tall that plays outside the square. Whilst Gill is not as naturally gifted as Hentschel, he at least has that attribute. And Gill's skills are pretty good except for kicking for goal, which can be improved. Have seen him pick up the ball on a flank, turn and hit a player lace out several times in the half a dozen or so games I've seen him play. Plus, he's a one grab player and has marking skills to match most in the AFL.

Another reason I like Gill is because he is entertaining. I like to turn on the tv and watch players that are exciting. The Crows already have enough man made robots in the team, brought up through rookie lists and such and Patfull would just be another IMO.

Understand your point as Gill is exciting if you hadn't seen much of Patfull but can tell you he has taken some absolute screamers in his time at Norwood.

I am not really sure about Gill, I kind of think he had a better year last year than this year. In fact except for a few games early on he was fairly poor. Sure due to injury but thats part of it now a days.

So, in your opinion, do you think that 16 recruiting teams across the country have all made a mistake in not recrutiing this guy ? Or is it that you possibly are assuming, incorrectly, that his good SANFL form will translate in to quality AFL performances ?

My view on this is that he is a late developer and he could make a reasonable AFL player and fits what the AFC need for 2007 - a big, agile forward with a bit of flair that can take a contested mark. He would not fit into all 16 teams and I don't really care if the other 15 teams recruit him or not, but I do think he'd fit in well at Adelaide in 2007. I'm more basing my opinion on the attributes that he does have would do well at AFL level in a position of need for the AFC as opposed to him finishing runner up in last year's Magarey Medal or kicking 6 goals in 11 minutes against Sturt earlier this year.

I like to think if a player is good enough, he will be given an opportunity regardless of age. I think the Crows have only one more season to make a play for a premiership with the current squad and Gill is worth the gamble as a quick fix option. If he fails, then we already have Hentschel coming back and our 4th round pick is wasted. I fail to see anyone else in the country that may have an influence towards a 2007 premiership that we could pick up in the 4th round of the draft.

He is not a must get, IMO, but if available, is worth the punt. Certainly more so than a generic Patfull, can play on the 3rd tall, type player.

I tend to agree with what has been said about Gill by glengowan... he is a late bloomer... spent 3 years in the system and i think this may have hindered more than helped him... he is a player with natural flair and that is sometimes discouraged from youngsters at AFL level.. jars has brought this out in him over the past couple of years... at AFL level he is going to be hard to match up on... he is tall and quick... has a good leap and can take a mark from just about anywhere in a pack... i wouldnt be disappointed one bit if we picked him up....

my preference would be him, then Davey and then Patful

Excellent post. Will be interesting to see if the AFC agree with you.
