im not trolling...nor am i looking for an argument...just want to know what's he like as a player...and why u guys rate him so much...i dont know much about him but a mate of mine who is a collingwood supporters rates him highly...cheers ;)

He's extremely quick for his size (192cm) as he runs a sub 3 second 20m time, he's a beautiful kick of the ball on his natural left, and can kick well on his right as well. He's also already known for being pretty tough and having a bit of mongrel about him.

He would almost definitely have played AFL footy in 2006 if not for the lack of injuries in our defence.

Quite simply, we rate him because he seems to be the complete package, and played well in the VFL all year.

Hey, what's with the winking?

Despite what you may have heard, and read about, and seen photos and videos of on the internet, I do NOT swing that way!

Vinnie, he is a right footer, not a left footer.

Anthony does have considerable potential, however not as much, in my opinion as Nathan Brown. I have some queries over his positioning in one-on-one contesting work, but that should develop as he is properly instructed.

He is very quick, he has good skills on both sides, and (importantly) he has a real crack every time the ball is in the general area - all good things.

I would see him being an excellent third tall defender (a la Clement) but we may not have the luxury of having two key talls to play in front of him, so he will probably end up playing full back or CHB for us.

Very much looking forward to seeing this kid in the B+W - was devastated to hear that he would miss the NAB cup as he was a certainty with his pre-season form and Clement's absence.

I'd like to think JA will be a player in the mould of Jimmy Clement. Takes the smalls and mediums and gives them a toweling.

Apologies - Meant it that way, mixed the words up.

I've said that I basically look at Nathan Brown as a bigger, stronger version of JA.

This is entirely possible, but at the same time, I don't think that key defense is something that is beyond him, he has adequate size and good athleticism, and every sign points towards him bulking up enough to hold his own. He probably won't ever be able to take the defenders that Presti holds, but he should be able to take the ones that Wakelin holds.

Yeah, he would have been the biggest monty of anyone to play in the NAB cup - He'll still get his chance when he returns from injury though.

I don't know what the fuss is about, we have overrated him thus far. Apart from a few matches, he hasn't set the world on fire.

He mops up well and finds space, but he struggles to take contested marks one-on-one and he gets pushed out easily.

Look he’s a kid in footballing terms and he’s a kid that you wouldn’t expect a lot from thus far and that is exactly what he’s delivered. Hopefully he plays good consistent footy with steady improvement in the 1s at Willi and pushes for an AFL game by midway through the year. Given our back line it will be hard for him to get a game in 2007 though.

and that's a good thing.
also, did we not pick him up as an lower age draftee?

Indeed - Pendlebury, Stanley, Cook and Anthony were all bottom aged when we drafted them, so all could have played another season of U/18s last year.

That's always something to consider when thinking about whether they played AFL football or not in their first year.
