Senior List
John Blakey contracted until the end of the 2004 season. Blakey brings a life-time of knowledge and experience, and a widespread football reputation to the Lions which says, quite simply, he is one of the ‘good guys’. With 359 games to his credit as a player when he retired at the end of 2002 as firstly a Fitzroy and then North Melbourne player, he ranked 6th on the all-time list of AFL games behind Michael Tuck (426), Kevin Bartlett (403), Simon Madden (378), Craig Bradley (375) and Bernie Quinlan (366). Blakey was a dual premiership player and emergency for North Melbourne’s Team of the Century.
Would be handy in the coaching box with 2 years of experience under Mathews.
