Don't give much credit to what Damien Barrett normally says, but he said tonight on TFS that Butcher may want to head back home.

Highly talented junior with a great set of dukes (kicking a bit dodgy apparently), injury concerns over the last two years but around his draft I know that Hine was looking to improve our pick in the draft to nab him.

Is he worth a crack at this time around? If so what will interest Port?

Yep, would love the kid, we need another key forward, especially a young one, although we have the problem of not having a great deal to trade with, draft pick wise at least.

We would probably have to give up players to get him.

Another problem is he seems to be injury prone, but that may mean his trade value drops a little bit.

Agree our Picks might be too Low but would you Trade someone like Goldsack or McCarthy for Butcher?

I think Port would at least want two of those type of players for a player they took top 10 only 2 years ago.

If that's all it cost us, I'd take it tomorrow though, both players are not vital to our future IMO, and Port are that poor off for playing depth they may take anything they can get if the kid says he wants to come to Collingwood.:)

Supposedly

Well will he say it those?

Another good gippsland lad, would love to get him. We certainly would be able to give him the time and development he needs. Needs a couple of solid pre-seasons to be ready for regular afl footy.

You'd surely have to have your money on St Kilda if he walked!

They're in the market for a KPF this year and they have better bargaining chips than us in the form of a) greater opportunity, lets be frank Butcher won't be replacing Cloke or Dawes anytime soon and he'd also struggle big time as a second ruckman (due to major concerns over durability), and b) a lot lower first round pick (I just think Port will be interested in picks before players).

Good luck to the kid if he comes back, because he does have talent, but I just don't think his future lies with us!

Fair enough if he is looking for Chances to play AFL we might not be a Great Option

Exactly! Can I just say though if we were able to get him to the club I would definitely be in favour of it, because you can never have enough talented players (as he is very talented) :thumbsu:

It'd just be in his best interests to not nominate us as his club of choice.

Very Well Put.

I think Melbourne would be very interested in him.

We won't get him - If Port trade him, it will be to a team with a better pick than the one that we have.

Player for player trades are rare in instances like this - Butcher was a Top 10 draft pick, and they'll have to replace him with a draft pick to reinvest in hope for their fans.

I hope your not thinking what I think you are, as in trading them Wood for Butcher? If you are I'd advise against even giving it a second thought.

Ha Ha.... Not a direct trade (need to be packaged) plus there are better ruckman out there on the market (Hampson/Bellchambers/H-Mac for Butcher?).
I was wondering if we could cope without Wood if Jolly went down (enter Shae Mac, Witts, Ceglar)- but not confident that we can.

Now I remember where I heard that Melbourne were after Dawes, there was some talk going around at the time that if Dawes went to Melbourne the pick we got for him would be used on Butcher.
Of course all rumour an innuendo back then, but I did hear that Hine was pretty keen

butcher is a gun. has had a terrible inj run over his 1st couple of seasons. if he gets run at it with injuries he will be a very good afl player. would love to get him to collingwood

Barrett is the worst journo in the business by far.

Select a non South Australian Port player. Look at the basketcase Port are. Start a rumour that the nominated player wants to go home.

Easy.

Ha Ha you have 2 good forwards in Cloke and Dawes, C'mon give us a chance we can''t just have spuds in the shed. Give us a fair go.

Haha... I actually think that you guys should go for him. You've got Kreuzer and Warnock I think you should do a deal for him using Hampson.

Would have almost worked out perfectly if it was last year in a trade for Jacobs

Ha Ha they all give me shit on their. They reckon every player on our list is worth a first round pick. They never realistic on certain players. We do have a good list of players but too many of the similar type.

he can play and is a big unit but he would be the 2nd worst kick at the club behind Shae.......he kicks 'em like i drive them off the tee! Makes Cloke positively 'dead eye'.....Port can keep him
