I liked how he fudged you're the voice in front a million plus live audience last night. His mind must have been elsewhere for him to forget the words like he did.

He is the "Rugs-A-Million" of Australia music. "Closing down! Limited time! Everything must go!"

I didn't see the closing ceremony but I got a description of the close ups on confused faces of foreign athletes as Johnny fluffed his way through his ancient tunes. Just blank stares and "when do we get to run off and hide so we miss the plane home" looks.

Todays papers report an astounding, fever-pitch crowd going mental at the presence of everyone's favourite singer. Hmmm.

Wasnt there a big hoo-hah over Delta being forced to mime during the opening ceremony? Weren't they were worried she might ******** her lines up?

So they rely on a senile octogenerian to recall his lyrics but not a 21 year old? That makes about as much sense as having him on in the first place.

Maybe the difference is that one is a seasoned pro who (despite the lyrical blunder) is still pretty much without peer in this country for his live performance. Who else would you have had perform to a largly mainstream audience at such an event? Say what you want about his tunes and his show, but anyone who knocks his vocal ability or is having a lend of themselve's.

And while i'm not one of the heard of Delta bashers, i think her ability to nail her vocal parts live can be a bit iffy, especially for such a massive event that the opening ceremony was.

Not my cuppa but you're right.

Me personally or someone sensible?

If it were me I would have reformed The Birthday Party but The Seekers doing The Carnival Is Over was the obvious choice surely?

Five years ago maybe but the last two times I've seen him live he's been godawful. Timing was off and stumbled over lyrics both times.

Why not The Birthday Party doing "The Carnival is over" (Nick's already quite familiar with it), or even "Release the ducks":p (Sorry-couldn't resist).

By trying to sing in too high a key he has lost all the power he once had in his voice. He is still a great performer but I would like to hear him sing in a lower register instead of uncomfortably trying to sustain a too high a pitch as evidenced last night. Not everyone likes John and their opinions have been more than justified by his antics and decisions, however those who love him need only cite his unparallelled achievements in this country as a pop legend.

stevie nicks made him look second rate and then they go and put him out there for the rest of the world to see:thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu: smart work by the committy

Getting Tracy Pew for the reformation would've been a bit tricky.

Thought of that. We'll get Athol Guy in on the double bass. It'll take a few rehearsals but he'll only have to learn Bigjesustrashcan and Loose. Should keep the oldies happy as well.

People can crap on about the great range he has with his vocals, still doesn't take away fron the fact, that his voice is like fingernails on a blackboard, retire already Johnny.:thumbsd:

imo Farnhams choice of material over the years has been C grade.

His songs are weak on an international level and the arrangements/production of his recordings only take away from the fact that he does have a very good voice.

As far as his ability as an entertainer, you can get the same sense of satisfaction by watching reruns of Daryl sommers on Hey Hey its Saturday.
It's that whole fake, run through the motions thing.
Thats why all his hard core fans are below average IQ and are able to believe in the charade
