Maybe the difference is that one is a seasoned pro who (despite the lyrical blunder) is still pretty much without peer in this country for his live performance. Who else would you have had perform to a largly mainstream audience at such an event? If it were me I would have reformed The Birthday Party but The Seekers doing The Carnival Is Over was the obvious choice surely?
Five years ago maybe but the last two times I've seen him live he's been godawful. Timing was off and stumbled over lyrics both times.
