John Hinge, Adelaide's only South Australian-based rookie, says he is 'rapt' that the Crows have added him to their rookie list for season 2005.
"I was surprised I got the call up and I was absolutely rapt when the club told me I was on the list," the 18-year-old said.
Hinge was among the 16 players invited to the Crows' inaugural rookie camp, and the Glenelg forward impressed with his explosive power, ability to find the ball and booming kick.
The Crows' third selection (No. 36 overall) in the National Bank's AFL Rookie Draft was thrilled to be at the same club as many of his idols.
"Meeting all the players has been great," he said.
"I've watched players like Mark Ricciuto, Tyson Edwards and Andrew McLeod, and I love the way they play."
"It is a thrill to meet them and now to train alongside them. It was a big thing for me meeting my idols."
The 186-centimetre Hinge played mostly school football at Sacred Heart College this year and had the occasional run with Glenelg under-19s. He has been likened to Scott Welsh with his ability to play tall and as a key forward.
"I have played up forward for the past couple of seasons and I think that I attack the ball hard and I try to have a physical presence on the field," he said.
The talented Hinge has set himself two goals for next season.
"Firstly, I haven’t played a senior game for Glenelg so that will be my number one goal," he said.
"Secondly, I'm looking forward to doing the pre-season training with the Crows and improving my fitness and strength."
"Long term, every kid wants to play AFL football, but at the moment my focus is on playing senior football with Glenelg, and maybe one day in the future getting a game with the Crows."
