As coach of the Crows Neil Craig’s job is held accountable by wins and losses, as captain and on field leader of the clubs Mark Ricciuto, Simon Goodwin and the players in the squad; there place on the list is held accountable by on field performances. Steven Trigg and Bill Sanders job with in the club is held accountable by profits and losses statements (among other things) but how is John Reid held accountable?

His job at the Adelaide Football Club is General Manager of Football Operations and he has been in this position since 1995 (just before Robert Shaw was appointed IIRC), so I ask the question how he is job performance held accountable but more importantly what the hell does he do?

This season the on field performances have not been good enough and I wonder if this stems from a few people off the field. A few people with in AFC may be getting too comfortable with in their roles and complacency may have set in, its time for a shake up.

I heard a rumour a few months back that Bill Sander maybe considering handing over the position of chairman at the end of the season. Club CEO Steven Trigg is doing a fine job and would not be readily replaced and the same would go for Neil Craig. With a new captain and potentially a new chairman is it time we also looked at a new general manager of football operations.

I believe that it’s time to move John Reid on and appoint a new GM of football operation but whom? My suggestion would start and stop with Nigel Smart

WTF? It's the last thing we should be worrying about now.

Everyone should be getting behind the club as we all concentrate on getting into the finals in the next couple of weeks and not working out who to sack!

IMHO, Johhny Reid is doing just fine but if he isn't, his position can be looked at later, not now. And I'm comfortable with Triggy working out if he is or is not the best man for the job.

If you don't know what he does how on earth can you suggest he be moved on.

JR has been fatastic for the AFC and there is no way I would want him replaced. I would replace Neil Craig or Stven Trigg before I replaced JR.

So you think I am suggesting that at 5pm today – John Reid will get his pink slip. Think about it. Of course there is a time and place for everything and over the next 6 or so week his job should be looked at.

Everybody’s job with in the football department should be looked at and 12 year in the same job is a bloody long time. Considering this off season we will be having a few changes with in the club, it’s as good a time as any.

No one should be given a job for life a few new people walking around will liven the place up.

Please share your wealth of knowledge and explain to us his job description.

So why do you believe this? Do you see what jobs JR has been doing? Do you attend training? Do you see his daily match day preparations? Do you see the work he does through the week? From all his PR jobs that I have heard JR do I think he is a great spokesman for the Adelaide FC. To simply say that you think it's time to move John Reid on, without a reason, smacks of idiocy!!

Isn't that the question the guy is asking though ... what JR does and what his KPI's are ?

You say hes doing a great job, but what is his job and how is it measured ?

Because I am sick of the bull shit propaganda that is constantly coming out of the Adelaide Football Club ATM and 99% of the time it is him that is spreading it.

It’s almost getting to be a bit of a boys club where success is not the ultimate achievement but making sure the boys keep a good job.

So because someone is a sycophantic employee of the football club, they should have a job for life.

After reading a few different threads on big footy, calling for someone head and not fully appreciating all the facts are a huge part of the culture around hear or is that wrong.

Just think Peter Rohde and double it.;)

I don't know what Rohde does either ... but i think they do oversee lists etc. as part of their roles. So he probably would have been the person that rubber stamped the trading for Carey and Bode .... can this be confirmed ?

I'll be upfront and say that I find JR a pain in the arse - basically because KG will have him on the radio on a whim and he never says anything.

If you're truly concerned, why not send an e-mail to the club and ask what his role involves and what he is measured against. They're not going to give you his detailed KPI's, but could probably give you a broad picture of his functional responsibilities. strigg@afc.com.au would be the place to go. he does generally respond if you ask an intelligent question.

I don't disagree with you, but having been coached by Johnny, he was a great coach and a highly professional and organised person. The Carey trade was pushed heavily by Ayres and he basically staked his future on Carey's inclusion. In regards to Matty Bode, can't answer that one.

I do know that they broadly have responsibility for everything that relates to the actual footy component of the club ie: everything of a non-commercial nature. He is also the main conduit between the hierarchy and the coach. The role is many and varied tasks and includes diverse things from ground inspections prior to the games to ensuring that players are aware of umpiring instructions that are issued, rule enforcement, policy adherance etc. etc.

So we shouldn’t discuss this subject on big footy? Why is that, so we can have room for 15 more threads on John Meesen or how crap Luke Jericho is?

If it is taboo to discuss someone pending termination, why is it such a common theme for the majority to call for Luke Jericho or Ian Perrie, or another whipping boys potential delisting?

I think that all have a right to discuss their views on delistings, sackings etc when they have "evidence" to go on. Although we may disagree with the "evidence" which is basically what a person sees in a player's ability, the discussion about sacking an official when we have no reason to suggest it is seen as a bit like muck-raking.
Get an email off and when you have a reply showing what JR is supposed to do and you know he has fallen short, then by all means give your opinion.

As GM of football operations John Reid would also be accountable by P&L statements for the expenditure of the football operations department. If a sprigger was getting $100k a year then he would be accountable.

I am not sure what your motive is BlackDouglas but we are all entitled to our own opinions but I always thought that JR is a very professional, somewhat dull but well spoken straight bat player. You need a straight bat player when you have that sort of position as the media will jump down your neck if you give them an inch.

Why not comment Jenny. Do you really think that JR is not accountable in his position? If so, you are living in Fairyland.

I guess I am not in the position where I CAN say something, as much as I'd love to. Probably shouldn't have even commented in the first place. :o But I do believe it is a great question that needs to be asked.

Why are you not in a position where you CAN say something? Or are you not in a position where you MAY say something? Sorry my school teacher grammar training coming out in me. Talk up Jenny.

Ok, let me rephrase it... I am in a position where I CAN'T say anything (or at least shouldn't). ;)

do you have any evidence to support these wild and emotive views?

If not, that's fine - but let's not pretend it's anything more than a rant then.
