did i just hear right? his younger bro kicked 26 sausage rolls playing for Mallee Park under 17's on the weekend

bigman add him to your list of youngsters to watch! you can even create one of your funny thread titles like 'small stiffy success' :D

Apparently he's kicked 30 goals in one game....It was also reported that the Crows and Power were interested in him, but he'd rather not play AFL

Why?

To play AFL football you need more than talent. There would only be about 5% of the AFL with enough natural talent to play at the elite level. The rest of the player in the AFL would have worked bloody hard to get there and stay in that environment, without determination and persistence no one is going to play any sport at the elite level and if Graham Johncock has to talk his brother into it, he will never make it.

Quite correct but at 16 like Nathan Ablett that period can come and go and then the hunger may arrive.

Phew. I thought you meant Stiffy's 26 foot sausage.

it wasn't in the juniors, was in the seniors

they kicked 38 goals, and johncock jnr kicked 26
Yeah and Wanganeed kicked 5. Couple of big names there :thumbsu:

Apparently, Port Adelaide Magpies wanted to bring him down but he said he is not interested in playing anywhere but the country. Maybe Stiffy senior can give him a slight nudge in the right direction :D

While it was a great effort to kick 26, you've got to put in context.
He was feed all day and he was playing against a team that hasn't won a proper game in 4 or so years.

In his youth he was actually rated as better than Graham, but I don't think the big city appealed to him.

In regards to drafting him, just because - just remember what happened to Pickett's brother.

Got drafted by Sheedy on his name alone, struggled in reserves for two years before being dropped. Now is overweight and playing average footy for the worst local team....

Did anyone cop Brent Williams on TFS last night ?

(AFC listed player in 1996 and 1997 - played 7 games in '97 before being traded to Melbourne)

He kicked 20-odd goals for his local reserves side last weekend - apparently dropped from the seniors to the reserves for getting on the grog and preceeded to have a day-out.

What frightened me the most was the way the boy has porked out to a block of flats !!...

Had enough talent - obviously not enough desire....:(

his biggest problem was he was a massive inbetweener in the goddard model... was big enough to get away with play CHF in the u18s but when it came to playing against men he wasnt and he wasnt quick enough and didnt find enough of the ball to be a midfielder

I've told this story before, but for those that didn't catch it.

I ran into him at Jolimont Station coming back from the G in the aftermath of our Premiership win in 97. As a youngster decked out in my scarfe, beanie and guernsey and having clearly made the trip over from Adelaide, I shook his hand and wished him luck for next season with the usual "hopefully you can play in the next one" talk.

He then proceeded to ask me how to get to such and such a station which, given my background and he being a Victorian boy, gave me the impression he was really relying on football being his calling.
