Hi guys,
Listening to the afc last year when they wanted to play Lewis as a centre half back i thought ,what the !
This guy is a natural centre half forward. We'll move on a year or so and watching the north v west match on the weekend he was out standing playing the loose man in the backlines. To me he is a perfect replacement for hendo,no actually he could be a lot better than hendo. Maybe they were right all a long, possibly the hendo trade won't hurt us after all .

Hes not good enough to play that role in afl level.

Johnstons limited pace, agility and field kicking (different to goal kicking) ability worries me about him playing this role at and AFL level. Hendo absolutely smashed LJ in every single on of those attributes.

Also whats the point in having our most accurate set shot at goal so far away from the big sticks?
With the likes of Walker and JJ back in 2014 hopefully, Jonhston could look to take advantage of taking the weakest defender week in and out, and would only need 6 disposals to kick 4 for example.

Taylor Walker is more accurate.

How often have you watched Johnston? His field kicking is better than his set shot kicking which is limited in its range due to his technique. He is a superb field kick, all his kicks are to advantage and are generally damaging too, in that their not nothing sideways kicks to players on their own that achieve nothing.

To be honest, I havent really taken special notice of his field kicking when hes played at AFL level, as he has spent most of his time forward and ive more been looking at his leading, marking, forward 50 pressure and set shots. From what ive seen in the SANFL his field kicking looks good ill admit, but at the same time Johnston looks a class above in the SANFL and we all know the difference between the two leagues is vastly different, so im not convinced just yet that him running around inferior opponents will translate to good AFL form just yet, but im happy to be proven wrong. I just think that 1) pace and agility is key to the role (hence why Reilly is shit at it :P ) and 2) Henderson is a better kick.

The pace would be the standout deficiency when you do the comparison.

Been keen to see LJ's ability to read the play and take the mark 3rd man up. Gives the impresison he is a bit more physical than Hendo... but who knows.

As for field kicking - both seem fairly good - lets call it even.

Hendo however is an 80m player (runs 30, kicks 50). Is LJ?

From last sunday he had pace and could kick over 50 on the run, his goal looked like it would of made 70.

Not sure he has the pace at AFL level to run 30 but a 10/70 could catch defenders out.

Would of been interesting if North played a forward 25 to 30 out instead of following West up the ground then having to flood back and hold the game up.

Be interesting with Norwood given that Bass would of watched the game and may choose to man up on him rather than also play a loose man in defence. Doubt that there is someone with the size and speed to match him so it may need to be speed to stop him playing on given that he is a longer kick on the run.
