Can you believe this tweet from Jon Ralph?

What an absolute and complete disgrace.

Bagging someone because of their looks?? Tongue in cheek or not completely unacceptable for a journalist.

Incredibly poor judgement. School bully stuff.

For those on twitter, I suggest you let him know this sort of stuff is not on. No need to stoop to his gutter level but let him know the Hawks are not happy.

There needs to be some sort of apology here....

I think the big take out from Brian Lake's suspension is that his nose is really bent to the left pic.twitter.com/oWX6s8NlNo

Is Ralph's opinion really of any value? Reckon Brian would just call it "white noise" and dismiss it in a heartbeat....

Ralph confirmed oxygen thief and pretty much bottom-feeder of the media...

Pretty low. Pretty much what I expect for people that randomly throw around words for the 'little paper' though.

In terms of professional standing, doesn't get much lower than writing for the Herald Sun. I mean, Robbo is the Chief Footy journalist down at that joint. Any lower, you'd be writing fortune cookies in a Chinese labour camp.

To us his opinion is certainly worthless but he would have a heap of followers - young and old - because he works for the small paper and he has basically done a school bully thing on Lake. Surely that cant be tolerated by the HS in this day and age. Incredibly poor example being set by a public figure.

I'm a serial Stooper/Stomper....So right back at ya Ralphy-Boy!

Yep....Dumb as dog-shit....Though that is the pre-requisite for working under Robbo at the Herald Sun these days!

I could see him being bullied a lot as a kid. Trying to get even in the later years of his life

The thing is they're not journalists anymore. Not in the true sense of the word. These guys just pen words.

Very rarely anything they do is considered, independent or has any more depth that cigarette paper.

Journalism as it once was, is pretty much a rare breed now. People like Ralph and Robbo write light content pieces. The impetuous is on publishing and updating the narrative as you go. Get it out there, get your voice heard, no matter the content, and update as facts come in.

They need to create these little media personas, get on shows, whore themselves around, because online media has changed, forever, the role of what was once a journalist. These guys don't break news, create compelling stories with their intellect and opinions, or drive change. They just write inconsequential words, in a lightweight paper, to an audience who laregly gets their footy news (and other news for that matter) from a variety of sources.

Ironically enough, seeing guys like Ralph take cheap shots on Twitter is actually rather sad, because his confected personality and trite words have no weight. he's a light-weight, his opinion means nothing. Because the democratisation of media that digital has brought, confines people like Jon Ralph to highly paid irrelevance. He furiously pens his words, no one notices or cares. Rather, 'nobodies' on places like this are more respected for their footy news and opinions than his.

Two more points:

1. These "sports journalists" are just blokes who go to the footy and write about it. They know nothing more than you or me, they just prattle on with no qualification whatsoever. Mike Sheahan leads the way here. At least blokes like Dermie have played the game at the highest level and have the footy background.

2. With the proliferation of different types of media: the internet, 24 hour Foxtel Sports channels, Blogs, sports radio stations, all providing instantly available sports news, the written media have to look for increasingly "sensational" stories to be noticed. So they exaggerate, obfuscate and simply make up stuff to sell their tawdry newspapers.

That's why they are generally the scum of the earth.

Amen.

All this from a Rupert Murdoch newspaper, the most informative on the planet in my humble opinion

The substance to word ratio is so small, the research so painfully light, the insight so plainly absent, that it literally reeks of fecal production more than it does of what it purports to be.

Jon walph!! An absolute flog of the highest order, does not speak evenly about anything yet seems to bob up everywhere like some MRP expert dobbing players in for off the ball incidents. Lower than low as they come! Stupid Tiger supporter with a sore arse! Hate Hawthorn in Media has gone in to overdrive this year big time! Lake incident is not a good look? How about
Franklins hit? Is that a good look?
Hansberry smacking his fat arse and putting Hurley into next week..is that a good look?
Not so Goodes' jumping up and smacking Selwood..that's a good look?
Give me a break! Btw, am I the only one that just realized the color of your shirt matters?

Yet, as a counterpoint, in today's Age was fine piece of footy journalism by the often derided Caroline Wilson. Superb article. Well researched, well written and, dare I say fearless in its opinion.

I actually think most 'footy writers' have gone beyond even trying to be sensational. They are merely churning out meaningless, trivial content.

This is a disgrace! ! What a complete f..ken twat. journalism, what a disgraceful profession. On par with real estate agents.

Who is John Ralph? What's his experience of Australian Football? What gives him the right to criticize a person's appearance? Was he implying that Brian Lake looks like he has had many fights? If so he is verging oncharacter victimization, and maybe leaving himself open for legal action.

more truth and wisdom to be gained writing those fortune cookies grizz...I think you may have offended all of those in Chinese labour camps.

John Ralph is an intelligent individual mate...just last week he noted how Maxwell may be back in for his first game since 2005 (he could have saved face by saying hoping to play his first good game since 2005)

Thanks for that Jamie. Well Collingwood must have cloned him, because on TV over here there has been some clown running around wearing number 5 for collingwood and pointing in all dierections, just like Maxwell. However if Ralph says it's not Maxwell, well that's that.
