so that would be Max Bailey and Birchall .......

Wow, Clarkson should be reappointed for another 5 years on that deal alone!

Pretty sure that pick 54 was involved there somewhere, too - that went to Port. There may have been another pick that was swapped along the way as well ... anyone remember the details?

We traded Nathan Lonie and pick 54 for Pick 14 Birchall

We traded Jonathan Hay to Kangas for Pick 18 - Bailey

They are 2 brilliant trades. Lonie was a fringe player at best and we couldn't have him and young on the list IMO as they filled the same role with Young a touch harder at the pill. So to pickup Birchall essentially for Lonie is a great deal. ANything for Hay would have been great. He was costing us a fortune and wasn't performing. To get a (hopefully) 10 year ruckman out of it was a great get also!

By the same token we have made some shocking trades in the past so we are due for some good luck!

In hindsight Mark, are you happy with the Hay trade as is?

Are you happy with the McConnell trade who would be very lucky to stay on the list this year?

Exactly.Still at a loss to know where the two first rounders for Hay theiry came from.

i think its because part of the deal for Port to hand over there first round draft pick for Lonie, was for you guys to hand over Daniel Motlop,

So in effect we did get picks 14/18 for Lonie/Hay and not having to pay for Hays contract

You guys got Hay, Hays salary and a reasonable draft pick from memory

Port got Motlop and pick 54

Still think the Hawks were clear winners in that trade, although at the time looked a fair deal for all

You wouldn't have got Hay if you didn't get pick 14 for Motlop. You then ontraded that pick and the pick 18 you got with McConnell from West Coast to the Hawks:thumbsu: Pretty complicated really!

OMG please tell me that was a comment made out of ignorance.McConnell is going to be a champion.Played his first game for the club last week and had 17 possies and 8 marks in a half of footy.Has the silkiest skills we've had at the club since Wayne Schwass, including Wells. You're way way off there bud.

We weren't that upset about losing Motlop and as you can see, he's gone over there and done exactly the same as he did here.Even if the picks 14 & 18 were true, that still isn't two first rounders unless there are 2 clubs playing in the AFL that nobody knows about. And all I've heard since we got Hay is we gave up two first rounders.

Never happened.

picks 14 and 18 were first rounders because three clubs got priority picks, so the last pick in round one was Sydney at pick 19

As for McConnell i do tend to agree with you that he will be a very good player

IMO he wont make it. I've seen a lot of him at North Ballarat and has struggled big time. Attitude is not right at that level either and doesn't look interested. Only got promoted for promotions sake. From the stats sheet appeared to go ok in the seniors but I highly doubt he will make it at that level.

can anyone remember the Hay of 2001?

What a waste, vivid memories of his job on James Hird in the prelim final, how good did our talls look that year?

Holland, Barker, Hay,Croad,Thompson,Rawlings

All young , all with seemingly bright futures

what went wrong?

You do realise he has been battling glandular fever for 2 years? From the skill and poise and footy brain sheet he went well in the seniors too.And no, he has been close to selection for a few weeks, but the club are easing him in because of the fitness he has lost over the past 18 months.

I can, had an absolute cracker of a game at Subi against WestCoast. Article in the age today as well, didn't turn up to a session, Kangas throwing away precious dollars. Do the kanga's medicos do brain transplants cause he is a perfect candidate. I think we should call him space cause there is a fair bit of it between his ears!

He may have been close to selection for a few weeks but his form has not warranted it! I reckon he has been in the best about twice this year, 3 times max! I hope he goes well but I believe in 2 years he will be off the list.

Stick to bagging us about Hay.

Time will tell. Not sure if he will make it. But lets hope he does as you blokes need all the help you can get!:D
