Joondalup

Last night, at a very emotional meeting, the members of West Perth Football Club chose (175-158 or thereabouts) to allow the directors to adopt the trading name of the Joondalup Falcons. I voted against, but there it is.

We've played at Arena Joondalup for 10 years now since moving from Leederville Oval, but haven't managed to make any money out of the new location (in fact the opposite), so the directors hope that adopting the trading name Joondalup will cause a cash inflow from the council & local business.

Time will tell.

Im quite surprised that the name was actually changed to Joondalup Falcons. I dont think more money will come from it especially from the Joondalup area. You'll always be known as West Perth as far as im concerned.

I was also at the meeting and voted against the name change. We are selling our souls for twenty grand a year from the council. I for one will be chanting for "West Perth", and I couldn't care less if it ruffles a few feathers. Interesting to note that the Club historian said at the meeting that if we win the flag, the flag will bear the name West Perth....I am going to hold him to that.

Would sound reasonable as they are 'trading as' the Joondalup Falcons. You'd think that they'd still officially be the West Perth Football Club Inc.

Whatever, they'll always be the Garlic Munchers

I've been around watching footy from the 70's and there has only ever been one derby in the WAFL. The West / East Perth rivalry has been geat but only in the last couple of seasons have I heard it referred to as a derby.

As for West Perth, same team and colours, just a slight name change. The garlic munchers live on.
