What a wank. Anything to justify the recruiting failures.

Our "failure" is your price rise & sooner or later clubs hit the cap wall.

Welcome to the new world of the AFL.

Please. You didn't invent it. That game has been played by all clubs for years.

If De Goey actually left (like your list management want), then it would have been you overpaying, so it's not like it's a deliberate strategy. It is you guys who will still end up overpaying for someone when you convince someone to actually join North. You didn't play some clever trick.

Let's put things in perspective. Personally, I'd rate De Goey higher than Lever, and Lever is being paid more at Melbourne - so I think we will be ok.

I'd rather overpay De Goey a little bit, than recruit a player from outside the club and have to significantly over pay him, which is what you guys will end up doing.

There's no "clever trick" about it. It's a player acquisition based upon a futures market analysis. Higgins could win this years Brownlow and we picked him up on a $400K contract!!!!!!!!

If JDG signs on at the Pies for 2 x $750K, then good for him, but if he ends up with a crippling career reducing/finishing injury, then he will have turned his back on a reported $3.5 million that would have set him up for life & there's only so many assistant coaching roles that Collingwood could hand out in a season. He should look closely at the Wells situation just to see what happens in that scenario, the pies are already pushing to get him off the books.

The kid has a VERY big decision in front of him.

Richmond paid the tax, and now it's Collingwood's turn.

Ridiculous.

Another major screw up by the North Melbourne Football Club.

Has officially become the joke of the AFL.

As I mentioned previously, clubs will always now point out to their player that history has shown no-one wants to take up North’s offers. It says a lot about the club.

If the Pies are paying $700k pa, it’s probably only $100k pa more than what they intended to pay anyway. And the way he’s travelling, he is worth it.

But don’t worry, Gubby will make an even greater, more outrageous offer to a player from another club who will accept and completely screw your club up.

lol, have fun with your 700k for someone who has played a few good games. Better to have the cap space than those clubs that don't. Good luck with lynch.......someone who could actually win you a flag. Lol. Oh yeah great pick up on wells and maynes, 4 mil gone...

if its up to me, i would be chucking those big deals at everyone of the important players coming out of contract on your list (or anyone else's list) to force your club to either pay way overs or let go or go through forced list changes to keep. Sucked in biatch, 700k for a player whos played 3 good games, lol, onto the next target

Hope it works out just as well for us.

North are like the desperate drunk running around trying to crack onto anything with a heartbeat at 4am.

No pride.

It's as if Levi Greenwood and Daniel Wells never existed.

Good luck with that Collingwood "pride" champ.:thumbsu:

Not everyone agrees with your thought process...

How many touches did 'cap space' get for you last weekend? I would personally prefer to convert Collingwood's cap space to players, but hey - what do I know?!

Above quips aside, I know that cap space is an asset. But, it's only an asset if you can utilise it. No point having cap space if you can't lure the type of players worth putting aside space. All that may end up happening is overpaying ok players, because the pressure to convert cap space to contributors will mount.

No we pay minimum, the a+ type will come along. Money talks eventually.

De Goey will re-sign with Pies soon now that the North offer has come out.

Supporters will lap it up appreciating how he's stuck around for unders.

Will bump this post when it happens, I expect Likes.
Official bump.

Thank you.

I 100% believe that it would be leaked by Pies / De Goey purely because they know he is staying and they will get so much positive PR out of it "De Goey knocks back millions to commit to the Pies, what a great bloke, what a great club!". Straight out of the Dusty & Wines playbook.

I bet he signs within 2 weeks

Good on the Roos for having a crack though. I hope the Roos, Saints, Blues work in tandem to max out some clubs TPP and shake some players loose

Well I am shocked to be sitting here

Sooner or later the cap rises too and others like Greenwood (2018), Wells (2019), Mayne and Pendlebury (2020) come out of contract. None of that group will earn the same dollars at the conclusion of their current deals. On a similar note signing Treloar for 6 years at 750k starting 2016 is looking low now, which also helps with the cap.

That we're approaching Lynch and May indicates we have plenty of cap to spare too, so I'm not concerned with your "tax".
