Ok I said last week he should be out for Grigg, and you Russell lovers got on here and talked him up and there were no changes. Stats sheet may look OK for him this week, but seriously... Turn the ball over much? Watch the 3rd quarter and see how many of those Brissy goals were a result of Russell turning the ball over. Second quarter he was on Johnstone and boy did he get a bath. He is a dead set disgrace, and I actually cringe any time he gets the ball.

Stevens in, Russell out.
Grigg in, Garlett out.
Jamison out obviously, who is coming in for him?

Russell was ok. He had two really bad turnovers in the 3rd quarter however, both which led to easy lions goals.

Russell is a good player, his decision making needs some work though. He often gets smothered or puts other team mates at risk.

I'm usually the first to defend Russ because I think he adds a lot.

Second quarter he was on Johnstone and boy did he get a bath.
JOhnstone went from 37 possies last week and a match winner to 16 tonight and barely noticeable. Got a lucky goal from the Selwood free, but otherwise was largely ineffectual.

Russ had 22 and presented well all night.

To suggest he gave RUss a bath is ridiculous in the extreme.

HOWEVER..........(shudders at what he is about to type)

is very close to the money. At least 2 turnovers came from errant Russ handballs, but I'm sure there are more as I made a comment to my cousin at the time, that Russ may go out for Stevens and Hoops to push forward to the HFF.

My only concern with this is that one of the keys to our wins ATM is our defensive pressure. To add Stevens for Russell removes A LOT of that defensive pressure.

Grigg would be better and may come in for Russ..........but you are overreacting.

He did a great job on Johnstone & was able to get the footy himself.

He did cough the ball up a couple of times in tight situations.

He needs to learn that when the opposition get him in a bear hug, sometimes you just have to not release the ball. In most cases he won't get pinged for holding the ball.

JR had 22 possies tonight at 77 percent disposal effiency which is a pretty damn good effort.

Mind you compare that to Bryce Gibbs, 34 disposals at 91 percent effiency :D :D :D

Seriously though JR won't be dropped this week, and anyone who thinks he should obviously has an blatant anti JR agenda ...

Russell wasn't on him after half time, so perhaps that effective tag should be credited to someone else? 3rd quarter Johnstone was in the middle, not sure about the last.

In the second quarter he did. At least 3 times johnstone was able to hit targets inside 50 with no pressure on the kick because russell had gone to ground, or was just too slow.

Talk him up all you want, reality is Stevo has to come back in. He's not coming in for Jamo without some serious shuffling of the team. He is the vice captain and a 200+ game veteran of the club, he's not about to come back through the bullants.
