was wondering what had happened to him,has only played 2 games for the Suns this season and according to this article has played his last game of AFL

http://www.skynews.com.au/sport/article.aspx?id=782247

Is a pity he couldn't get a farewell game. I remember back in 2000? when he kicked 4 goals against the bulldogs from memory, thinking he would be collingwoods great white hope.

All the best Josh, you were much maligned but you still played 200 games for collingwood. Hopefully the club can give him a lap next season

His gift from us was getting to 200 games.

He left bitter. In interviews since he left he has stated he feels more affiliation with the Suns than he ever did with Collingwood.

Really? Well that changes my opinion on him then. Seems like an arrogant prick.

Was watching the 2002 highlights DVD today, he was a star.

Dont be too hard on him we dont know what went on behind closed doors.

I remember every year waiting for him to bulk up.
Got ragdolled year after year and finally got pushed around by Peter Bell.

He knew that he was much maligned by Collingwood supporters. He was under no illusion that he was considered a hack at the Pies. He was good when he was young, our only good player in the 2003 GF smashing by Brisbane. It was hardly his fault that he was the number 1 draft pick or that Collingwood had no ruck other than him for years. I feel a bit of sympathy for him.

That's disappointing.

For much of his time with us he was a favourite son (well, second favourite behind Bucks)

Maybe things got a bit ordinary towards the end, but he was a key actor in our 2000 era.

Was the only player who could hold his head high after the 03 GF from memory
What utter crap. Burns, Buckley, Licca, young Didak, Tarrant, Johnson and a few others played well, but we got smashed that day because our bottom 5-6 were utter crap (Walker, Lokan, Kinnear, Cloke etc), had little to do with our best on the day, or in the side.

Anyway, as for Fraser, sad to see him fade away into a distant memory, but that was of his choosing, he didn't want to stay after being left out of the 2010 team leading into the finals, and it was as much his choice as it was the clubs to part ways.

The Gold Coast were never going to give him a heap of game time once their young rucks got up and going, and his knee problems meant he was physically finished anyway.

He was a great servant of this club, make no doubts about that, he carried the ruck division for 10 years when he really should have been a tall forward/second ruck, but Malthouse was too ****ing stubborn to recruit a proper ruckman for too long.

Thanks for the service and memories Josh, and I wish you and your family the best in whatever you do now.

.

talk about absolute Bullshit. Bucks was shut down by Robert Copeland and had a average day by his lofty standards,Licca only had 21 possesions again poor by his standards,Tarrant kicked one goal.

Burns was decent, and dids did well with limited ball. Fraser was clearly our best player and the only player who really played above themself

Suggest you go and watch the game again

I watched the game, I was ****ing there.;)

And what I remember was Buckley trying to lift the side late in the first quarter and also the third. I also remember Didak looking bloody dangerous in the third quarter, and Tarrant kicking his second goal late in the game. Burns tried his arse off all day, and Licca was given a tagging role which backfired (might have been on Black even) but he still got the ball also.

What I also remember was Richard Cole ****ing up so many times it wasn't funny, Heath Scotland shitting himself in the first quarter, Texas Walker looking like a monkey for four quarters and well Malthouse's famous comment about Cloke was almost accurate.

I remember the game it;s burnt into my bloody memory, I wish I could forget it.

Anyway, back to Josh.

Well you either have a shit memory or were drunk

its funny how you blamed our "bottom 6" players like walker(who was a kid),Cloke (who was played out of position) Lokan etc, when it was our more senior mid-tier players like O'Bree,Holland, woewodin and Scotland who went missing that afternoon

Taz only kicked one in the 2nd GF,kicked 2 points

Your probably mixing up 02 which was a far superior effort

but yes back to Josh

Rhyce Shaw's bounce. *face palm*

Anyways, good luck Josh with future endeavors. Very grateful for everything you gave to football, especially the Pies and hopefully there are no ill feelings with yourself and the club. :thumbsu:

Absolutely agree, wish I could find that interview where MM stated that he would give Fraser time to develop and then proceed to play in him in the ruck all year. His body was stuffed at a very early age. IMO could have been a great CHF/forward.

Thanks for the service and memories Josh, and I wish you and your family the best in whatever you do now.

Ditto. Good luck Josh. :thumbsu:

Re: MM and rucking .... keep in mind we didn't go looking for a new ruck though, Jolly wanted to return to Melbourne and looked at clubs that needed one. We were extremely lucky. Jolly was a perfect fit....mature big body, knew his craft, could take pack marks and kick straight.

History will be kinder to Josh than a lot of the opinions expressed about him more recently.

As already suggested we could do a lot worse than swapping him with Wood for next year though that won't happen.

He couldn't possibly get a farewell game after 18 appearances for the Gold Coast.

The whole idea of farewell games is a dud anyway. They end up in most cases as almost a celebration of failure. You only get one if your team doesn't make the finals and invariably the side cops a belting and the bloke gets chaired off.

And on Tarrant, he didn't kick a goal in the 2002 GF. In fact he was goalless for the entire finals series.

Fraser was always very good at the small man stuff for such a big man, but always very ordinary at the big man stuff for such a big man -that sort of sums him up for mine. Couldn't take a contested mark against a ruck bag!

Fraser is the living example of why Ceglar and Witts should be brought on slowly. Fraser played in the Ruck from that Day he joined the club, and this led to his ultimate demise.
I know the club tried to get him support along the way, such as Richards, etc but ultimately Fraser was forced to carry far more of a load than was humanly possible.
He was a young gun, and I remember him as an exciting youngster with exceptional ability that faded as the injuires and pressures mounted.
Good luck to him, and I hope he is welcomed back to the club with open arms by Eddie one day..
