Josh Hunt???

Thought he was reasonable.

His kicking was good except for one wayward pass to Mooney in the last quarter that went nowhere near him.

His defensive work was good and after going onto Davis, he hardly good a sniff. Davis missed a few goals though which, if they’d gone through, would have made Hunt’s game look worse.

He also managed to get in a defensive fist on a couple of occasions to help out his team mates. He needs to do more of this.

Something to build on.

the bloke hears footsteps coming.

He did a dinky little slap in the hole in front of Rocca, when he could have marked it instead.

Besides that I thought his game was reasonable. With DJ & Callen ready made replacements I'd give him another 2-3 games to really put his hand up for september and get some form.

Unlike the other defenders though (even Mackie), he doesn't back into contests to help his teammates out (Enright, Harley, Egan, Milburn do this many times every game). Is why I want DJ, pretty sure he'd happily put his body on the line.

Thought he was alright, didn't do anything really bad but there were some signs of 'old Josh'. Give him a few more weeks.

How many times is he going to do this? Happy to dish out the tough stuff in the contest but won't run back into the hole. That effort was embarassing. He also refuses to man up. Being an outstanding user of the ball doesn't entitle you to stop doing the team things. He should get another go this week but I's sure the coaching hierachy would be well aware of his continued limitations.

That dinky little slap was good play! It was deliberately knocked to Harley and allowed us to quickly counter attack while Hunt whikle simultaneously allowing Hunt to keep his feet. He could have thrown himself at the ball and taken a courageous grab but at best that would have slowed play down while Hunt recovered. There was a high risk of dropping the mark though and if Rocca wins posession while Hunt is on the ground recovering, the man he peeled off is roaming free. You can't knock Hunt for that one.

Kept Didak uncharacteristically quite however did not do a lot on the rebound. All in all a reasonable performance.

Not totally convinced but certainly helped to hold Pies' often elusive forwards in check and I give him credit for that. Is it lack of confidence that lets him down or poor decision making? Deserves a few more games to prove himself and adjust to the demands of the seniors again. I hope he reads bigfooty posts!

Has he bulked up more or is it just that I haven't seen him in a while?? He looked very strong. Didn't think at the time he had a great game but then I heard the commentators talking him up. Next time I watched that game I took more notice of him and thought he wasnb't to bad. Couple of things mentioned above but serviceable on the day.

it only looked like that cause we had numbers at the drop. It went to the deck and could have bounced anywhere. Let's not revert to the cute indirect rubbish we saw last year.

If you can take a saving mark in defence then do it.

I still think he deserves a couple more games but if this type of courage continues of in a consistent manner should bring back DJ and seriously question Hunt's future with the club.

That dinky little slap was soft! Edited for accuracy.

Have you ever played football at any level DanA? An effort like that shouldn't be tolerated. He went half hearted at best. That Harley ended up with it was purley luck.

Nah I leave the footy to the hard nuts like you mate.

Your right it was pure luck that the ball ended in Harley's hand. Couldn't possibly have known Harley was there.

I only saw it once but I don't think he was more than 50/50 to take the mark and absolutely no chance of keeping his feet if he attempted it.

I would suggest he knew exactly where Harley was and at full stretch he made the split second decision that it was better not to go for the mark. There was also an occasion latter iin the game when Ling was going for a mark and purposely dropped the mark to his left side to the advantage of our players at his feet. A similar circustance happened to Steve Johnson either this week or last where he got the ball to fall behind when contesting overhead. AFL is not like suburban footy, they frequently pull of stuff people consider a fluke.

Give him the benefit of the doubt. If we'd lost I bet there would be the usual blasts for Hunt as gutless, dumb and unskilled (except for the long kick) and calls for him to be dropped. I was at the game and was heart in mouth for most of the day expecting Collingwood's usual resurgence but watching the replay I thought we had much more control of the game and I didn't think Hunt was too bad in a stellar back half - he still has to work hard to earn respect but we should keep him there for the time being. (Also, I saw him at training last Friday and I didn't think he had that useless bulk he carried previously.)

Hunt on Didak? Sure you don't mean Davis? Because I'm 100% sure that Mackie was playing on Didak.

I think he played a reasonable game. Let's be honest, it was a high pressured game and mistakes were made on both sides, and Hunt made no more than anyone else.
I thought he was a good inclusion to the side on the day and a few more weeks in the seniors will see him back to where he should be.

Hunt was solid. One thing i noticed was his disposal, particularly by hand, was very accurate and penetrative on Saturday.

He is still lacking confidence. There was a passage of play where Hunt was streaming into the forward line, could have gone on and kicked one of his notorious thumpers from fifty, but decided to drop it short. His confidence will have risen after the win.

Selection dilemma for the Doggies: D. Johnson usually gets Aka, do we bring him in? Who for?

He has got a pea heart thats why the dons gave him the flick.

Davis kicked 4 behinds. If he'd converted, we'd all be calling for Hunt to be dropped.

Most of those would have been miracle goals from quick posessions where Hunt was on his hammer.

Davis also played a half a quarter on the ball where he got most of his possions.

David Johnson IN, and Josh Hunt OUT??

Johnson has a ripping record against Akermanis. Aker is in fine form, so do we bring Johnson back in this week? If so, who goes out? Hunt seems the likely contender.
