Re: David Johnson IN, and Josh Hunt OUT??

May happen because I think he usually gets Aker doesn't he?
Aye, and he was absent during the rain-drenched Gabba massacre when Aker produced 5, including those two scintillating boundary line miracles. I would've said "nah, it's 07, Aker's not worth the trouble", if it hadn't been for his form in the past fortnight. As Sttew noted, he's played very well, and it would be a mistake to underestimate his worth, especially his clutch time effectiveness.

However, while I believe DJ's more accountable than Josh Hunt, I can't see a switch being made. It'd be a mistake to slice and dice the team so soon after Hunt's replaced Rooke. If he was considered good enough to contain Collingwood's small forwards, he'll be considered good enough against the Dogs. I'd imagine Enright would be the preferred option on Aker anyway, with Hunt plan B.

Besides, I'm getting tired of winning. Boooring. Let's give the Dogs a chance.

I thought that he played alright. He did his job, had some good kicks and handpasses, and laid a couple of pretty ferocious tackles which is worth seeing.

True Hunt didnt really do anything worth being dropped over in his return but the fact is Johnson always does a good job on Aker and if he is to come back in it would have to be for Hunt. unfortunate as it is. We are in a problem now that anyone who is dropped from this side is very unfortunate.

Good problem to have Tony.Hunt is too loose to play on Aker. Johnson is too slow and lacks rebounding Ability.
How about Woja and Aker head to head?

DJ has been in fairly good form lately in the 2s , and with his record on Aker must be a chance. plus the fact that back in 2005 when Johnson didnt play Aker got something like 32 poss didnt he and 5 goals. worth a go

Agree about the past, but Aker seems to be playing further up the ground at the moment and Dj might not have the speed or stamina to keep up.

Regarding the 'dinky little slap.'

Very good play. A very low chance of him taking the mark as he had to double back, was unbalanced reaching above his head. He saw the player at the 50m and hit it to him.

If our player was not there, it would have been bad but he still would have not been able to take the mark anyway.

Unlike the other defenders though (even Mackie), he doesn't back into contests to help his teammates out (Enright, Harley, Egan, Milburn do this many times every game). Is why I want DJ, pretty sure he'd happily put his body on the line.

DJ has been criticised in the past for committing to too many marking contests while his (small forward) opponent cleans up the crumbs..

I guess there's a fine line between helping your team mate out and being accountable for your opponent.

Tend to agree. At first I thought he was going to be able to get back and take the mark, and perhaps a faster defender would have been able to, but I think in the end he was unlikely to take the grab. He wouldn't have known that Rocca was probably too far away to take it anyway.
I have a feeling that Josh was running back, knowing he wasn't going to be able to take the mark, and had two options. One, back out and cop the crap from everyone about ducking, or do what he did, noticing that Harley was open and that Rocca may have been going for the mark, by doing the percentage play, knowing we had the numbers at the fall of the ball.

All that said... I think DJ would be a better defender for this week considering the opposition. Tough to get dropped when all things being equal he doesn't really deserve it on the back of that game.

boys boys boys, there was no reason 4 joshy 2 b dropped in the 1st place, he is 1 of my faiv players, and all u idiots crapping on about him bng soft on the back of 1 incident last yr. have a look.

he has done nothing wrong this yr, and he seems 2 b the scapegoat 4 every1 including thompson when things go wrong.

that said, i think we r a beta side with D.J in, and joshy is prob the likely bloke 2 drop 2 get him back in.

i have just bn worried the last few wks seeing charlie gardners name in the emergencies list, i really hope this poor bloke isnt being seriously considred 4 selection again! 1 of our biggest chops along with spencer, playfair and lonergan

Nothing to write home about.

Some of his marking was woeful at times, and really begs for the DJ replacement. However, his kicking was better for the most part, and his attack on the ball (and contests in general) was encouraging to see.

This glamorises Josh a bit! He's been in the 2s for so many games - and even here his frustration at being played there was noted and made too public by Josh himself. Forget about the hasbeens - but Josh will have to earn his spot with eqally competent players in the wings. I don't think anyone has really stressed his past errors - we are living an exciting present and he has to be an effective part of it.

Josh played ok, however at times could have looked a lot worse. If and it is a big 'if' Davis' goals had gone though that could have changed the game which would've made Hunt's game a lot worse that it was.

Also an interesting comment from Walls during the third quarter that Hunt was nearly 50m off Davis during one stage.

I know Walls has a lot to say about Geelong, however that was interesting seeing that he was brought back into the team to stop the smaller forwards of Collingwood doing anything.

I'd like to see some more gametime and hopefully some improvement, otherwise it wasn't a terrible game by Hunt. He did ok, broke the lines a few times and with his size he should do that more often.
