Judd not at his best until August: Akermanis
Thomas Arup | March 31, 2008

CARLTON superstar Chris Judd will not be in "full stride, full kicking" until August, according to Bulldog Jason Akermanis.

Speaking on Channel Seven's AFL Game Day yesterday, Akermanis said he had had the same surgery in 2002 that Judd underwent in the pre-season and that the recovery had been long and difficult.

"Full stride, full kicking takes nine months. So the Judd fans … you're not going to see him kick 60-metre goals until at least August," Akermanis said.

"It's disappointing I know, but that's just unfortunately what you have to do and what you have to get over, with an injury like this."

Judd struggled last season because of a chronic groin injury. It restricted his running and kicking and forced the midfielder to spend time in the forward line.

He signalled at the start of this season that Carlton fans would not see the best of him for several weeks as his body improved after surgery.

Probably won't be right by round 10 or 11 like we all imagined....can't wait for 2009!!!

Come on, dont write this season off yet. Im still positive that we can get 7-8 wins on the board.

We actually showed some good signs against the saints, and they will beat more teams than us by 40+ points during the season.

Who would have thought that Riewoldt and Kosi would be largely ineffectual in that amazing forwardline. I was impressed. Mistakes cost us as always, and the only thing that will fix it is experience to the younger players.

As for Judd, im happy as long as he is contributing. When he does get the ball, he's still all class. I'm happy enough having a relitively quiet Judd in the team as we know how good he will be at his best. When he's 100% fit, thats when we will see him kick 2 or 3 goals a game.

Aker would know right?
I mean, everyone recovers from the same injury and same surgery in the same way.......right?

Aker = arse clown.

Brown had the same surgery at a similar time prior to last season. As we saw in the NAB cup final he was well down with his mobility and kicking accuracy.
By round 5 he was stepping it up in a big way, and then by round 16.....well, I don't need to remind you all.

Bigger frame, harder on the groin.........quicker recovery than Aker.

Judd will get 100% fit WHENEVER THE **** HE IS READY AND PEOPLE SHOULD JUST STOP SECOND GUESSING THE WHOLE THING.

:D

Given that Aker had similar surgery 5 years ago, I would have thought that that given the likely improvements made in this kinda stuff, Judd could perceivably recover a little quicker. Also, he had the surgery in September, so he is already more than 6 months since the op.

As Bluebear said, Brown had the op, and his second half of last year was amazing. The fact that Judd is out there, and giving it his all should be enough.

Listen to you guys.

Aker said it took him approximately 9mths to recover from the same injury/surgury that he had. Put two and two together then you would expect Judd to take around the same time.

Aker hasnt had a dig at Carlton or Judd personally, however a few of you seem a little upset with him.

Being 0-2 after such high pre-season expectations may do that to a few of you on here ;):D

Keep your heads high lads :thumbsu:

Why?
Are they the same person?
Do they have the same surgeon......same rehab.......same physiology and ability to heal?
A knee reco takes 9-12 months. Do you understand why a three month range is given?
This is my point. I thought I made it very clear in the post above.

No, not really. Just setting the record straight. Try reading and understanding everything on this page before making stupid comments.

Arrogance isn't very becoming for a Dogs supporter. The only reason we don't get stuck into the Doggies the same way we do the Saints or the Pies is because their supporters usually show due humbleness in their comments, coming from a recognition that they are one of the worst performed sides in AFL/VFL history.

Don't go changing that perception.

A half fit Judd would still be the best player in our side at the moment. Juddy is just pure class player.

Carlton won't be back this year and probally not in the next 3 years. I will keep supporting them and purchase a membership but basically we are stuffed.
It is no good moaning about how young we are or inexperianced our team is that has been the direction of the club for the last 4 years. What happens when we realise that our young players who the club has ruined by playing too young against harden AFL players with 5 preseasons under their belt are washed up at 24 or 25. Do we then get further 17 year olds number 1 picks and repeat the process?? If we were a strong team Kreuzer would be placed in cotton wool and played only at the last resort for limited time.
Realistically how many of our current team list would get a game at Geelong?
