Well only really time will tell but I think Carlton has blown this trade.

He was going home so we were up the creek anyway we could only hope that a club stepped forward with players and or draft picks - enter Carlton.

But think about it - Judd is 24 and this year Carlton are not going to play in the grand final and whilst have great stock of young players probably wont play in a grand final for another 5 years or more by then Judd may well be at an end, especially in the midfield. Judd may not even poll that well in a Brownlow again as Carlton arent winning enough games.

Meanwhile, Kennedy has shown he is going to be a star for us if he keeps going the way he is going. Also from the Judd trade we got Masten who is showing great composure in the midfield for a first year player.

Had Carlton let Judd go and kept Kennedy, they would also probably got Masten or Palmer.

What I am saying is that Carlton would have been better placed in the 5 or more years time when they come to play in a grand final to have Kennedy and Masten/Palmer along with the rest of the young crop of players.

Time will tell.

so Judd at 28-29 is past it?

You also failed to factor int he membership/marketing/sponsorship $$$ that Captain CJ brings to the club, not to mention the flow-on effects of the example to the kids he sets with his work ethic on the field and the training track......yep a pretty short-sighted view by the OP ;)

I think the Weagles stuffed up. You failed to get the #1 draft pick. I remember your CEO demanded picks 1 and 3, but you only got 3. Not sure if you made the right decision with pick 3 either. The selection was based more on drafting a local player rather than the best talent. BTW Browne and Rioli look a lot classier than Masten as this stage. Early days. Hope JK does well though. :)

MMM currently Judd is playing better and obtaining hard get disposals and showing more leadership than a fully fit Kennedy and Masten.

Judd is still not 100% and we're not deluded and know he wont be Judd of old till after he's had a full pre-season.

My question to you is without that extra leadership and "show you how it's done" players in Cousins and Judd the Eagles so far are a shadow of their former selves.

I'd say it's more win for us...

1. More members on snagging one of the best in the AFL.
2. Experienced leadership we were lacking.
3. A PROVEN great player entering an AFL players peak (25-28 age).
4. Respect

Granted the two players you obtained have oodles of potential but they have not done anything yet but shown potential. But Judd so far has kicked I think more goals than Kennedy this year, is doing great in terms of hard ball gets and clearances, and is averaging about 20 disposas a game of which 90%+ are quality.

Yes, another fool who looks at the stats sheet, sees Judd not getting 30+ possies each week and thinks he is not having an impact.

Marc Murphy is leading our best and fairest right now..........because Judd is there.

Nick Stevens was nearly BOG on the weekend.......because Judd is there.

Our membership is up over 40,000 on the back of a 4-18 season....on the back of several others just like it..........because Judd is there.

5 years you say? How do you know. The Cats werwe crap 4 years ago, as were the Hawks and the Dogs.......and WCE were the best etam ever and were never going to lose...........times change. ;)

Kennedy kicks a couple of goals here and there and will be a superstar?
Please. He may well be, but I think you get ahead of yourself.

Here's an idea. Why not as you said twice......let time tell......and try not to strain yourself with too many "ifs" in that post.;)

Joking?

Of course Judd has kicked more goals than Kennedy - the young bloke has played less games and is still learning his trade. Judd is a master and for the money you are paying him he ought to have kicked more goals.

I said you blokes have some really great young kids and adding more would have seen you to a grand final in 5 years.

By the way - you are all talking about now. Football is all about winning Premierships and no club knows that better than Carlton!!

Your membership is up because of the new excitement that is Judd. Will it stay at those levels. Only 3 clubs to my knowledge have sustained memberships at that level - Adelaide, Collingwood and West Coast. The other clubs dont seem to be able to sustain those levels.

By the way - the Eagles are down this year because I dont think any club has been through what we went through last year! Everyone was out to get us probably rightly so - but the shell shock for the other players is too blame and seems to be finally wearing off.

Did Wet Toast win on the weekend???

We wouldnt have had this post on here 3 weeks ago. Well done JK but seriously!!!

Not just Browne and Rioli but also Rys Palmer is showing alot more.

Browne was given defensive roles because Masten and Palmer were meant to be the most promising WA midfield draft prospects. Palmer is a ball magnet no doubt, but Browne has better skills. Just thought Browne looked a lot classier and quicker than Masten in the Blues V Weagles game. Browne has a point to prove. We got a bargin. :)

A decent pre-season will make a big difference.
Judd is still under the effect of busting his arse
for the eagles in 2007. He's not 100% but is still young
enough to recover completely and have a big impact.
That aside, Judd has brought so much to Carlton already
that even remotely suggesting it was a 'blown' trade shows
how much of a nitwit you are.

Will the WCE sustain a membership at that level if they regualrly play in a stadium of 70,000 + where you don't have to buy a membership to see a game? Ditto Adelaide.

Rioli was a big miss for you guys......and isn't amazing how you take out Judd, and Cousins....and all of a sudden "champion" midfielders in Braun, Embley and Fletcher start to look B grade.

Any more trolling today?

remember this, by giving away a forward in kennedy who really didnt do all too much with carlton we got a leader & best player in the afl in judd PLUS a taller, more agile KPP -Ruckman - ruckrover who has shown more in his first seasons games than kennedy had over his couple of seasons.

so judd plus the kruez will do us nicely !

ctacp

curlier than a catoggio pube

as i have said to a couple of my mates, we didnt get Judd to perform this year. We got Judd to be a leader and top notch player for the next 8 years.

Chuck him in the midfield with Murphy, Gibbs, Kruezer with Stevens, Simpson, Browne and Hamson and fast forward to 2010-2012. Be one of the elite midfileds in the comp.

Having said that, i think we could have got him for Kennedy and pick 3 and kept the later pick (no 18?)

Judd was a bargain, he brings experience and a winning culture (As a Captain and a Player).

The younger blokes of carlton will learn the game faster with him there. The talent is already there, they needed a leader like judd or they will turn out like the saints (All Talent no heart) :)

Good luck to him.

Privy to the negotiations were you?

Judd's leadership has been a massive asset. The guy is just so highly respected, and sets a brilliant on field example. He's clearly enjoying being a leader of this developing list. Really like the way he supports his team-mates with his comments. Just says and does everything right. Great to have a true leader as Captain rather than a token captain which most AFL Clubs have at the moment. :)

Furthermore...

Judd's true worth might be enhanced at the end of season if other out of contract players wanting to follow his lead possibly join the blues as they seem to have bright prospects for the near future. Might be the sealer in getting a good player knowing they will play with and learn from Judd.

Not to mention single handedly boosting your free kick tally 40% :)
