Ken Judge will depart the West Coast Eagles at the end of this season - at least those are the signs coming out of Subiaco this week.
Barely two weeks ago, the Eagles were trotting out the familiar "Ken has another year in his contract" line - usually the first step in a sacking or departure by a coach.
We've now moved into Stage Two: "Ken Judge's position will be looked at at the end of the season, as all positions at the club are reviewed."
For his part, Judge is sticking to the "I have another year to go" line, but he must know his time is nearly up.
While Judge pleads that he needs more time to finish the job, the team has gone backwards since his arrival.
The only thing Judge defenders seem to able to do for him is point to Hawthorn and say "look how well they are doing now". Yes, they are doing well, now that he has left. And to credit Ken Judge with Hawthorn's current position makes as much sense as claiming John Todd was responsible for getting the Eagles in to the 1991 and 1992 Grand Finals.
In a remarkable coincidence, two-time Eagles Premiership captain John Worsfold, currently an assistant coach at Carlton, has declared himself in the market for a senior coaching job.
It's all part of the game that he denies having had talks with any particular club, of course, but there are three clubs in the running.
The Eagles, obviously, would welcome him home with open arms - but they aren't officially looking for a new coach yet.
Dockers fans, by some strange logic, like to claim Worsfold as one of their own, and some seem to believe his coaching Fremantle is a fait accompli. Dockers management, however, have stated their position - they want a tried and proven AFL coach. Whether they would back down on that point for Worsfold is open to question.
The third possibility is St Kilda. But with their record on treatment of coaches I find it difficult to believe that anyone with long term ambitions would take them on - anything less than a premiership in you first year and it seems you're out on your ear with your reputation in tatters. For their part, the Saints may not want to risk another Tim Watson - a big name player who promised a lot but couldn't deliver in the coaching stakes.
