Well said (Vinnie too). I'd love to see the #42 running around again.
I new him well and i know he would have said your joking arnt ya, give it to someone and get on with it. I think in those situations put the number on the rack for 5 or 10 years then bring it back. Then the kids who never sore the number can learn how good it was on the last player. And hopefully in this case realise drink driving is a dead end road.

You know, it's one of those things that might happen eventually - A passionate, hard-working kid who decides that he wants the numbers legacy to keep going might take the number.

I don't think any of us would be upset if someone like Heath Shaw or Dale Thomas wore Darren Millane's number, because with their courage, they would NEVER do it a single moment of shame.
Agreed, doesnt have to be a Thomas or Shaw. I think someone like a young Scott Burns who has always barracked for Collingwood as a kid. If we draft someone like that, then that'd make the #42 up there again for a while.

thats true, they might take 42 out of retirement and those mentioned would be held in high regard!

If anyone were to get number 42, it'd have to be Heater. Such tradition. But I'd prefer it retired, myself.

Um....10 should go to Medhurst, in line with two goal sneaks in Rupe and Cara, not to mention Willo's penchant for a snag or two.

Although 19 (Davo, Willo) has a strong history in medium sized hfs.

- Lonie needs to resort back to #37, he just can't carry the mantle of Mark Richardson.

How I agree with that! 37 game Lones such an attacking flair, he has seemed stunted since his move to Richo in '04.

I'd love to see Trav in 33.

10 needs to go to someone with the knack for a goal, surely. And, although I've NEVER seen him play, Joel Selwood would sound good in the ten.

I think five should go to Heater, FWIW, whenever Bucks hangs them up.

And 17 to Danny Stanley should he prove himself worthy.

Give the number one to Jimmy C should he skipper, and continue that tradition. And hand Neon the old number 40, that suited him back in 2000.

Give Dale Thomas 5 after Bucks retires.

It would be fitting that he wears the jumper of both (a) Collingwood's best ever player and (b) Colllingwood's best ever mop-top

OOOh ye of short memories. Dont mind the idea of Daisy getting the famous no.5......one day.But....best ever moptop:confused: ?? You too young to remember Ronnie Wearmouth?????? Agreed Thomas is a champ though!:thumbsu:

35 has 5 covered on both counts. The curley Mullet has even been preserved by Toyota.

You don't think the no 42 guernsey would put young players under more pressure than they are already under?

A few quiet games and the faithful would be screaming "This kid has got nothing on Pants!"

Well yeah, but that's why you give it to someone like Heath or Daisy, who's pretty unlikely ever to have something like that said about them.

Whilst both look the goods I still don't know if either will be as good as the original!

Mind you, I'll be rapt if I'm proven wrong!
