Jumpers

As a player I can tell you it's not much easier distinguishing red from blue than two shades of blue or black and blue. All of them are dark colours and at a quick glance they look very similar.

For alternate strips to serve their purpose they need to be in lighter colours (yellow, orange, light green). White is out because of the umps, I've always assumed.

Hawthorn, Sydney, and maybe a couple of other teams can probably get away with only one jumper. I can't imagine anyone watching on tv mistaking their jumpers with anyone else's.

We tried Orange last year and your boys still had a cry... why because we wore black shorts and socks... how dare we it was only our home game...

Well, even if they weren't a rip off of our shorts and socks, they were pointless.

Why should the "home" team (it was only a nominal home match, as it was played in Sydney

) be allowed to wear shorts and socks which are identical to their opponents' when they're not even a part of their regular colours?!
The blue shorts and socks would have been fine.

The ruling on colour clashes for this season was in the newspaper about two weeks ago. The AFL has asked all teams to submit by the end of this month what guernsey, shorts and socks they will wear for their 11 home games this season. Then on a weekly basis the AFL will decide for each away team which guernsey (home, away or yes even ansett cup guernseys), shorts and socks they will wear in order to avoid colour clashes. Every team has been asked to provide at least one alternate guernsey so we may see teams like Essendon, Richmond and Brisbane in different strips this season.

A little history lesson up until colour telvision was introduced to Australia the North Melbourne Football Club wore black shorts and as we are a lot older with far more history then Collingwood... I think black shorts were quite appropriate... if that is what we wanted to wear...

Only if they were trying to confuse people or piss off Collingwood. Whether or not North used to wear black shorts, people don't think of black shorts today when they think of North Melbourne.

like I could be bothered... if you are going to say North played Collingwood in Sydney last year... and use it as part of your arguement... at least have some idea of what is going on in Australia... Collingwood boy...

So I made a mistake. That doesn't detract from my argument that North ripped off two thirds of Collingwood's strip!
