Just received notice that I've been selected for Jury Duty.

Its during the next semester though so I will have to delcare myself unavailable.

Pretty dissapointed though, always wanted to do Jury Duty (You have been selected to be a member of the Justice Squadron!).

Would have been a bit of fun over these mid-year holidays. :(

"You have been chosen to join the Justice Squadron, 8 A.M. Monday at the Municipal Fortress of Vengeance."

If you were going to do it, you would have to get yourself a pair of those glasses with the eyes in them.

And I hope the Jury gets sequestered...

Free room, free food, free swimming pool, free HBO... FREE WILLY!

^^^ahah classic, classic episode:D:D

even though you get selected for jury duty, there is still a dog's balls chance of getting on the 'panel' isn't there, don't they call up a ton of other people for the selection process?

Haha There is so many classic simpsons episodes for all parts of life. I was actually called up early last year, but when they ask you what you do - if you say law student no lawyer will let you anywhere near an actual jury;)

Hate to ask this question but what are you studying TBD?

Anyone who works for a living looks at Jury Duty as some sort of albatross around their neck but it's interesting to see a student look at it as an opportunity!

Is the attraction something to do with your studies?

It may not be the fun that you think. I had a month of jury duty in Feb 06 and can promise you that I was a very tired person mentally after it. 3 cases I was called up on with 1 lasting 2 weeks. The charges were not so nice. When we catch up I will tell you more.

Studying Political Science and Economics.

So the attraction doesn't have anything to do with my studies, just thought it would be interesting.

John's spot on. It could be the worst thing you ever do.

In the working world, we look at it as a terrible call-up as you could lose out on your working income whilst you're in a 3-month case and it's a bit of a lottery as to what sort of trial you'll get.

My funny story was that I turned up to jury duty and found out I wasn't required and that I was supposed to have called up before I came in. To find out this in front of the hundreds of other 'appropriate' jurors was very embarrassing but I got the day off so went to the movies and had a great day all the same.

I'm aware of the economic implications, I've spent 10 years working full time myself.

As I said, I would only have liked to do it while on a break.

Count yourself part of the majority of Australians whom are in the position "wonder what could've been" rather than one of the minority thinking "well there's 1 week I'll never get back!" ;)

Hehe true.

I'd probably end up on some tax fraud case spending 2 weeks listening to accountants reading out receipts and balance sheets.

got called up in the UK, sat around for a week and they settled out of court, never got sworn in or anything. The week cost me a damn fortune as they kept sending us away for a couple of hours and the court was right next to covent garden!

Looks like it would have been juicy too, one person had a mashed up face!
