Firstly, this is not sour grapes.:D

I was just wondering, because at the start of 2003 AVESCO introduced "Project Blueprint" which was designed to even up V8 Supercars and the way each car brand was able to present their cars for 2003. Hence, the 2 car companies both released new brands of their cars - the BA Falcon and the VY Commodore. And AVESCO and CAMS gave each team the limits of which parts they were allowed to use and which company made the parts.

I know for sure that the Holden teams used the Falcon's front suspension assembly for their cars in 2003 (under the rulings), and I know that the Ford teams were told they could use the Holden undertray on their cars which assisted in aerodynamics.

My question is what are the parts that both cars were told to use, and which parts are unique to either brand. Also, if the Holden was using parts from the Ford, were they taken from the BA Specs or from the more useless AU Falcon.

And I will add, I am not looking for any excuses for Ford's success this year - I don't know a hell of a lot about specs on cars, and I am purely curious and interested to know more about the ins and outs of the V8 Supercar.

This is as far as I know.

Holden use:

Ford front suspension
A specially designed engine block. This was designed because the Ford had a lower engine block, and therefore a lower centre of gravity on the car. This was a specially designed block used on an old chev. No other car in the world uses this block.
Chev V8 engine (not a Holden engine!).

Ford use:
Holden size undertray. (Isn't really a "holden" undertray, just the same size as the Holden is)

The engine Ford use is actually the same engine they have been using since 1993. They are unable to update the engine as AVESCO will not let them advance (as their new engines are too advanced for the Chev, and would beat them fairly easily).

They both use the same Diff, gearbox etc etc.

The only thing Ford/Holden have benefitted from their new cars is:

Holden: New Suspension/new aerodynamics (different body shape)

Ford: new aerodynamics (different body shape)

Other than that, I am not sure. (The engines are all still push rod engines, and therefore WAY in the past!)

Geez so Ford have an engine that Holden cant match:D :D :D

Holden ********s:rolleyes:

Just to make it clear though...the only things they share with their road-going vehicles is the shape...and even that is different in some areas.

Also just on top of that, in the Konnica series which is closer to the actual factory cars, the Ford had to run the AU engine against the VY engine as the BA is too far advanced for the VY to compete.

Cheers for that. I am just curious about all of that.

And as for the Holden's engine being a Chevy, its like that because General Motors America owns Holden Australia. Its much the same with most car companies around the world - Ford America owns and builds Mazdas, and BMW own and build the new Minis.

The Holden engine is called a Holden in Australia, a Chevrolet in America, A Vaxhaull in the UK and an Opel in Germany. But its exactly the same engine.

True.

But my point being is that the Ford V8 Engine is built and designed by Ford Performance Vehicles (Formally Tickford).

It is the only V8 engine built, designed and manufactured in Australia. It is used no where else in the world unlike the Chev/Holden.

The engine is a homegrown product. :D
