Just reading Travis Cloke's fantastic blog on the Collingwood Website and I noticed that Justin Crow (the ruckman in the VFL side) also travelled to Arizona.

Check the link, he is in the fourth photo down.

This almost certainly means he will be added to the list.

Probably the reason why Thoolen was cut!

I dunno. There are a number of players who didn't go, 10 i heard. Makes sense that they'd give the opportunity to others from out VFL side to make up the numbers maybe. Who knows, Perhaps we shouldn't have delisted him in the first place..

Justin Crow was lured to the Collingwood VFL team this year with the promise of him also being employed by the club to do physiotherapy (his occupation obviously). So he was there as a physiotherapist to the team.

I still think he'd be an ideal late pick to cover our lack of experienced tall defenders after the retirements of Clement and Wakelin and the delisting of Thoolen and the injury concerns to Presti, and the excellent form of Anthony as a forward rather than as a backman.

And he'd be a fourth ruck option.

I think he lacks the physical ability to ever be useful playing AFL football.

He's actually at the club because he's doing a Masters placement in physiotherapy, and because he was doing that, they asked him if he wanted to do a pre-season with the VFL side and see if he wanted to play with the team, which he ended up doing. His primary focus of being at the club is his Masters placement, so he'd be in Arizona as a physio.

I don't think it means anything at all with regards to him being put onto the senior list - He's a good VFL-only player, and we need more of those, not less. We're in the process of building up a list of VFL-listed players that will allow us to compete on that front with the other VFL teams. Our problem during the year in the VFL wasn't that we didn't have the young AFL listed players playing well - It was that we didn't have enough quality VFL-listed players.

Fair enough. There are other experts who have done more homework than myself.

I'm just looking at our senior list and thinking we need a temporary hole filled while our key talls are still wearing L plates.

Mature aged recruits should not be overlooked when there is a specific need. In all likelihood, even if drafted he'd be playing VFL anyway so drafting him would be a depth decision only. Thats why I'd like somebody like Crow or L Brown or J Cloke or N Carroll or some other older bigger body to be in consideration. And Cloke isnt tall enough or good enough, Carroll is a specialist FB only and a headcase, Brown is by all accounts terrible, and that leaves Crow who can play both ends and ruck and had a pretty good VFL year last season.

If he's there as a medico, then fair enough. Thats probably the reason he was in Arizona. But you never know what the club is thinking. We overlooked Josh Mahoney a few years ago when he was a washed up ex AFL player rotting away on our VFL list, and he ended up with a Premiership Medallion with Port.
