Carlton supporters, after watching Karl Norman on the weekend I started to think of how similarly he plays to Chad Cornes. I know right now he is not in the same class, but given a couple more years (he is 4 years younger) do you think he will be the same type of dominating CHB. This may have already been discussed, but what do you think?

I thought in the few games this year ive seen him in he's looked a bit lost out there for some reason.

Perhaps with Livo at FUB and Thornton at CHB he's not sure of his role down back.
He should be the 3rd tall but Teague probably has that role at present.

I think he has the athletic ability to do well, just not 100% convinced about his footy smarts just yet.

That's the gist I got, definitely has the size and athleticism, needs more time and perhaps a greater responsibility, but in 2 or 3 years I think you definitely have someone who could control it down back and pick up plenty of possesions and give plenty of run.

Yea, i agree that he sometimes looks a little out of place down there. I've mentioned before i'd like to see him up forward, though we seem to have enough marking options already (with DeLuca still to come in and Fish).

At the end of last year i thought Digby was playing rather Cornes-esque. He was playing pretty loose and getting a few marks. It'll be good to see him back tonight (went to school with the guy).

I think Norman is a definite potentail 200+ player for the blues. Starting to get that ol backline POWER back. those 95 days were great with Sexton, Dean, Silvagni, Ang and co - it just made scoring so hard against the blues

i think Thornton is genuine quality, along with Teague, Norman, and Houlihan providing the run - Its starting to take shape again - if Livo can make it at CHB.. I still cant believe how quickly things have happened at Carlton!
Thanks Dennis!

Agree with our defence taking shape but don't you mean Livo at FB. Will be great if he can hold down the position allowing Thornton to play fulltime at CHB.

Thornton has mainly been playing at FB the past few years hasn't he? I think at either FB CHB thornton is going to be a great player. Its been a pleasure to watch in progress - he started out having it very tough down there, but just kept at it, and now is such a reliable performer. Its almost worth going through those rough times to see the types of him develop. Do you think Livo should play FB because of his a bit bigger? why do use see thornton better at CHB?

I guess you're still learning about the Blues list, but we need all the supporters we can get. To answer your question, Livo is playing FB mainly to free up Thornton and give us two key defenders. Generally a fullback needs a top defensive game and very little attacking qualities. While Thornton has a good defensive game, he has a fantastic attacking game. Livo has improved his defensive qualities and such has know been rewarded as our first choice fullback. Personally I'm rapped with our defence at the momment. I've always said a great team was built from defence and it would appear Pagan has taken up that philosophy.

The only circumstance i would have Norman forward would be playing out of the goal square because of his pace, anywhere else in the forward line would be a big NO-NO because i am yet to see him take any pack marks. Alot easier to spoil in a pack than marking in a pack.

no i'm familiar with the team, went every game last year, and thornton played at FB pretty much every week - Livo was in and out of the seniors. I definitely dig the concept of playing Thornton at CHB, as he can run with the ball quite well for a taller type - but Thornton has been very reliable at FB IMO. Livo still has the jury out on him - But i will be more than happy if he can hold down FB and free up Thornton to player further up the ground. definitely with his added strength

i think normans got talent but his a snob. i went down 2 training last year n i asked 4 a high five n he pulld his arm away if i c him im gonna sell him sum drugs :D

It shapes as a big year for Karl. I sense sometimes his body language isn't as good as it should be. I hope I'm wrong because i really believe he has alot to offer us as a player. His Wizard Cup form has been disappointing, apart from his run down and tackle against the Demons. He will be lucky to hold his place against the Eagles. I hope he does though.
