Speaking of good guitarists, this guy is easily the best Aussie rock/blues/country player of the last 10 years.

Did anyone hear him with Lynard Skynard on last years American Music Awards, ******** whaling sound and chops to boot.

Anyway,I've just started listening to his stuff in the last 18 months and have slowly grown an ear for it.
Not all of it but the stuff where he plays good acoustic and electric.

Anyone else like him?

He is the best guitarist in Australia.

His music is classified in the country genre but his music is much more diverse than that.

I know the average close-minded person will think country music and they are put off immediately, but his albums are well worth the effort for anyone in general.

Some of his solos are simply brilliant.

I was one who dismissed him as country crap until I saw him with Skynard

Blew me away.

Full marks to a guy who leaves his country to make it in Nashville/USA in such a big way.
Big move.

Talented MF.

haha keith urban... I mean some country music is ok... very little, but some.

but... hahaha... oh lord.

Oxx... i want to ..... i really do but ..... i just couldn`t

Country makes me want to pick up a baseball bat and take to things

( so does western )

The Blues bros and Dead Kennedy`s takes on "Rawhide" are about all i can stomach .

Country music just makes me think of Musters , Denilliquin , Utes with more mud flaps than a double B , Bundy Rum , B & S balls and that crappy , whiny slide guitar that makes me want to go for the Baseball bat again

Maybe my mind is a little closed ???

exactly.

Country music is for americans, australians didn't grow up in america, so how could they possibly relate to country music? :D

I respect Keith urban though for being so highly thought of in his particular field, especially considering he's from Australia. It's an acheivement and the country music industry is huge with inbreds from the south.

As said it is classified as country but I suppose you could call it Country Rock or something. Many songs really have no country base at all.

Do not think traditional country stuff, were not talking Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Garth Brooks etc.

Get these type of thoughts out of your mind and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Hell my favourite bands are stuff like Metallica, Led Zep, ACDC, Beatles etc etc but credit where it is due and Urban is a gun.

HAHA.

Slide guitar sounds like a cat is being dragged through a drainpipe by it's tail.

My closest experience to country music is sitting next to Kasey Chambers on a flight earlier this year.

While Keef might be alright, most country is incredibly dire.

I had the pleasure of seeing Keith play in Slim Dusty's band live quite a few years ago. To my young ears he sounded fantastic back then. I've only heard a few of his solo singles to be honest, but I like what I hear. Probably should pick up one of his albums...

Respect to the mans achievements though as you said .

Imagine it would be a very , very tough market to break .

The Nepotistic - American market is hard enough to break as it is let alone the hill-billies down at Nashville opening a door or two as you said .

Saw an interview with him on 60 minutes a month or two ago and he did seem like a good bloke .

LMAOoOo@ u throwing empty crownies at a chicken wire cage, behind which Keith is playing an acoustic set

I feel that way still about most C&W.

I hear ya but keif is of the "Mullet-less" genre of country artists.

He's really just pop in the song sense (arrangement) but leaves a bloke like Diesel behind as a Git-tar player.

He's obviously suffering from his time in the industry, having supposedly proposed to Kidman
Can really ****** a bloke up.

LMAO @ us taking off after him in the Winnebago

I never got over her work in BMX Bandits . That red mop sticking out from underneath the Stack hat would have to be one of the least sexiest moments in movie history .

Thats where they stuffed up in Eyes Wide Shut .... should have gone for a much more sl.utty option

They are certainly an interesting Couple .

it was a joke mate, just portraying the kind of attitude we often hear in regards to Hiphop - fwiw i don't mind some country music, and certainly have no problem with Australians making it or listening to it. Music's music, it doesn't have a culture barrier imo.
