Toast Kelly

I was one that has been out of love with him this year, but was fantastic last night. The problem is the combination of Kelly, Corey, Bartel, Selwod is just too one paced. Teams get us on the rebound and turn it into a running race. The good thing is the hawks dont play that way and their midfield is as slow as ours. So Kelly and Corey should be able to shine next week.

Was definitely going backwards there, I think he struggled not getting the ball and was chasing all the time. Exactly as you put it Two Planks, due to the lack of speed he was mostly second to it and tackling all the time and just couldn't get his hands on it. Gladly, that turned around last night.

Dont remember that. o_O ..... Still love him. Crucial plays throughout last night.

Well off the ball and nobody else around to remonstrate. Nothing in it really, but was just unnecessary intimidation on a young kid.

rubbish; I love stuff like that vealesy, wish we showed more of it! was never gonna cop a report, just reminding the young whippersnapper to respect his elders !

I don't think Kelly has ever been noted for his speed- Has been more of an inside player, I would have thought, for most of his career. Several role changes have probably been foisted upon him during the journey unsettling him somewhat. Looks more at home as an inside mid.

Usually think his kicking can struggle, but actually used it pretty well the other night.

Agree with the comment he's been off the boil for a few weeks. Came back a vengeance on Friday.

He seems to have been up and down, inconsistent rather than off the boil, eg
Down v PA,
Good v WC,
Very Good v Sydney,
Average v BL,
Down v Freo.
Yet in all those games he averaged 8.4 tackles, higher than his season average, which was already the highest in the League.

Theres other ways I prefer where that kind of respect is earnt, like Chapman's bump, but now they come under scrutiny, as Kelly knows all too well.

But to resort to beat downs doesn't need to be his aggressive outlet.

He needs to get 15 tackles this week.

Has been consistently average all year. Hasn't earned a "toast" thread. One (half) decent game doesn't deserve a toast, consistent output does.

Agree! Defensively he's been consistent. But offensively, off the boil. Good players rise to the occasion when it counts and where it counts so I'm anticipating another influential game this week.

More than a 1/3 of his games at 25+ disposals.
More tackles than any other player in the League.
50% of his games more tackles than anybody in the League has averaged.
Perhaps the problem is under-rating, not under-performance.

It's been his disposal that's been letting him down. Friday night was his best game in ages. Hope we can get another one like it this week.

A good sign. At least it wasn't a lack of effort that was letting him down. But geez, some of his disposal was incredible on Friday. I hope he can back it up again this week...we need Kelly at his best, desperately.
