MVP Kerr under scrutiny?

It was almost like he thought the ball was about to drop and was aiming to kick it he was close enough to swing around and trip him I dont see it as an attempt.

In the spirit of the rule I'm guessing an attempted trip would be when you try and trip, make contact but the tripped player doesn't actually get tripped.... If you miss then maybe free kick but only if close.

Is it really?

Yep sure is... rule 15.4.5(h)

Rule book direct download link... http://www.afana.com/drupal5/customfiles/afllaws_11.pdf

Its always a fun read every once in a while... rule book really needs overhauling some day.... I really love this one, just in case any of you ever thought of pausing to give a mate a shoulder ride for giggles during a game:

15.10.1 When Awarded
A Free Kick shall be awarded against a Player or a Team where the field Umpire is of the opinion that:
(c) a Player has lifted a Player or climbed on the shoulders of a Player from the same Team. This Free Kick shall be taken by a Player from the opposing Team where the infringement occurred or where the football is at the time of the infringement, whichever is the greater penalty against the offending Team;

That's so you can't have a bloke sitting/standing on the shoulders of another bloke on the goal line as the other team takes a shot.

Yep realised what its for... its just hilarious that it needs a specific rule in the first place... plus its worded strangely and could be interpreted as not being able to take a hanger off a team-mates shoulders. And if it doesnt proclude that, then people can legitimately 'try for a hangar' on the man on the mark anyway as its kicked - be spectacular to see it! Nic Nat running up and taking a screamer over our man on the mark as its kicked!
