Champion data stats in the worst this morning
So we got smashed in possession, made more errors, handballed too much and didn't have enough intensity in the tackling area.

The key part of the game was the defensive pressure. Hawthorn were excellent in this area. We won the 3rd quarter because of the defensive pressure applied, but it faded in the final term. The loss of Soloman really hurt us.

You would always expect the losing side to make more errors. The good thing the stats show is that we are not overusing the footy like we have been known to do (slightly ).

Also our inside 50's obviously more effective than the week before.
And to lose by 15 points with the difference in inside 50's shows how good our defence is.
Tackling at 66% is a worry and will have an impact on errors and effective possessions etc.

First Possessions and clearances looks pretty good to me considering the Hawks have one of the best mids going around.

almost 50/50 kick/handballs would call this into question

Are you sure about the clearances, we were salughtered around the ball. How many times did we not even get a touch on the ball (apart from Sandi) around a stoppage. I think our defense did a bloody good job considering their oponents and the amount of ball that was being sent down there.

well it shows that we won like 66% of the ruck taps and the Hawthorn still got 50/50 of the first possessions, so no - not really. It does show that our midfielders coughed it up several times though.

Not having seen the game, I am shooting a little blind but would this:
First Possession
Freo - 35
Hawks - 35

Clearances
Freo - 28
Hawks - 36

be some sort of vindication of 211?

Definitely is Lach. What the stats won't show is the number of times Sandilands taps the ball to a Freo player's advantage and then they double handle it, or simply can't pick it up. I assume the first possession stats which then don't translate into clearances are due to turnovers? We all know the midfield is not good enough - there's no need to lump the ruckmen in with them though.

yup 7 times we had the first possy and we didn't get the clearance, and once we got the first possession and the hawks cleared the ball -> our guys in the midfield turned over the ball 7 times.

Thats the net of the numbers. It may have been that we turned it over 15 times and they turned it over 8, leaving a net result of 7 turnovers after first possession.

The other thing I noticed seeing as though Matt Carr is in the firing line was tackles. If he was playing as a tagger (not sure if he was and who) then only 1 tackle when he should be sweating on an opponent is abysmal.

I've seen runners with better stats than that! And umpires that can take a better mark!

I'd like to remind punters of my 50 tackles rule. We never win with less than 50 tackles unless it a complete rout. I don't think we've had that since Collingwood at Subi three or four years back.

I think its good measure of intensity.
