Noticed a couple of times that Brisbane got fantastic clearances by utilising direct and long kick outs that caught us off guard. Wondered if this could also work for Carlton. The only player on our list that I believe has penetration in his kicking is Simpson. It would seem that there is no designated kicker and we do seem to struggle in this area. Russell in particular is a risk kicking out in my opinion. This area of the game seems so vital these days. Wondering if others think that Simpson should take the kick ins.

I have to say many people on this site have bagged Russell why don’t you trust
The coaching staff football is a team and I believe Carlton are very shurde I in the
Team they are putting together the mighty blues are in for a long period of sustained success we are only 1-2 players away form a top 4 position and we may already have those plays as natural progression happens as the boys mature so please instead of bagging someone Like Jordan Russell give the boy some encouragement .GO BLUES.

Absolutely not!

They did that to Camporeale when we lacked a good kick-in player and that was a disaster. It ran the poor bloke off his legs and robbed us of a key link up player coming out of defence. It would be the same with Simpson.

Russell is every bit as penetrating with his kicking and at least as reliable as Kade. I reckon you could count Russell's kicking clangers on one hand for the 2 games this year.

Give Russell time to work into the role and build his confidence and he'll be spotting up blokes 60 metres from goal before you know it (has done it a few times already).

Russell has been great with his kicking out. Nothing needs to be changed.

In regards to Simpson being our most penetrating kick, not true. Gibbs is without a doubt our most penetrating and accurate field kick. Pointless pulling him back from midfield just for kickins as we need him further up field as shown by his 8 I50's last match.

Agree with you Sublime. I'd like to see Gibbs trusted with the kick ins, as he has the penetration, and accuracy to hit targets from the kick out. The more I think about it, the more i'd like to see Gibbs play off HB, especially when Judd comes back into the side, and Lucas finally debuts. His kicking off one flank, and JR on the other, and we may finally start to eliminate these turnovers back there.

Thanks for your replies. Must say I do not concur with your thoughts about Russell. I still feel that he lacks composure at times under pressure with his disposal. He can kick the ball long but is not as yet consistent with picking the right options in my opinion. I don't see this as bagging him just giving my opinion.Kick ins and any disposals from the last line are crucial in modern footy. So unless Russell gets to the prowess of Simpson and for that matter Gibbs I believe it is relevant to pose the questions I have here. Also no one is infallible including the Carlton coaching staff and even if they were this is a forum for opinion.

I'd like to continue with Russell at the moment. In the future I'd love to see Rhys O'Keeffe given the job and allow Russell to be an option, further up the ground, to kick to from the kick in.
Russell is doing a good job so far, he has made a few stuff ups, but we've had other players make some stuff ups. Before Rhys is given the chance to kick in, we need to get him settled in the team and get some games under his belt and for him to do that he needs to , firstly get over his hip injury and secondly get back to full fitness.
But for now persist with Jordy : )

zing, not sure some people watch the games.....JR was kicking darts last week.

Not going long to Warnock would help. To weak in contested mark situations. Hands arent strong enough.

Chris Johnson being rubbish really set our team back inthe kick out department. I think that he was Carlton's long term kickout plan. Russell is doing a great job at the moment
