Looking forward to our round 1 collision with Geelong, and have to say I have been impressed with the way their young guys are handling themselves. They are going into a season with some top players out in Varcoe and Pods (likely out), but really they are more likely to have the problem of which young players to leave out. Guthrie and Motlop really pushing hard for a best 22 position.
The Big O will likely come in, but cannot see Sandilands losing sleep about that selection.
The other players who could come in include Brown, Horlin-smith, Taylor Hunt, Schmedts, Gillies and Hogan. I loved the way they destroyed GC Suns in a battle fo the young squads. The talk is about GC and GWS having a window opening in 3 years, but the Cats are also placing themselves well to be thereabouts. An impressive club.
Round 1 is going to be a great benchmarking game for us. New coach. Some missing personnel = opportunities for new players on both sides. Some imbalances in the make of the teams giving contrasting strengths = opportunities for coaching moves to come to the fore.
