Prosecution expected to pursue injuries, inconsistency

The case against Kobe Bryant will focus on injuries suffered by the alleged victim and the prosecution's belief that Bryant intentionally deceived law enforcement officials, sources familiar with the prosecution's case have told ESPN and ABC News.

Those sources claim that Bryant met his alleged victim when she gave him a tour of the Lodge & Spa at Cordillera, during which he extended an invitation for the woman to come to his room later that evening, which she accepted.

The 19-year-old woman did go to Bryant's room the night of June 30, where she spent less than half an hour, according to the sources.

ABC News sources claim that the two engaged in some consensual sexual activity in Bryant's room, but that the intercourse that took place was not consensual. Those same sources say that the alleged victim sustained some physical injuries, which Eagle County District Attorney Mark Hurlburt and his staff plan to say prove that the sex was not consensual.

According to ESPN's sources, prosecutors also believe that Bryant intentionally deceived police officers and that his statements to them were inconsistent.

The Los Angeles Lakers guard is free on bond pending an Aug. 6 court hearing during which he will be formally advised of the charge against him.

KB is in a bit of strife  still im sure the millions will rolld out and he will get away with everything.

It doesn`t look good for Kobe and his off field star has dimmed a fair bit, but proving him guilty is still going to be a challenge for the prosecution. Probably more twists than a good Deaver novel in this one.

Clippers owner named in sexual harassment lawsuit

July 30, 2003
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling was sued for sexual harassment Tuesday by a former employee.

Sumner Davenport, a property supervisor at Sterling's Beverly Hills Properties, was fired in 2002. Her lawsuit also seeks damages for wrongful termination.

Davenport said that while she worked for him, Sterling made ``unwanted and offensive physical conduct'' that included hugging, kissing and touching her chest.

In the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Davenport says Sterling at times unbuttoned his pants and ``adjust(ed) himself'' while she sat across the desk from him.

Davenport said the work environment made her ill, and she had to take medical leave in April 2002. She said she didn't find out she had been fired until three months later.

A call to Sterling's Beverly Hills office Tuesday night was not immediately returned.

A separate discrimination lawsuit against Sterling is pending in federal court. It claims Sterling ordered employees at his two apartment complexes to rent only to tenants of Korean heritage, not to blacks or Hispanics.

Woman Claims Piston Gave Her Herpes
Clifford Robinson's Attorneys Deny Star Has Herpes

POSTED: 6:08 p.m. EDT July 30, 2003
UPDATED: 6:13 p.m. EDT July 30, 2003

A Detroit law firm announced Wednesday that its unidentified client's case against basketball player Clifford Robinson of the Detroit Pistons is scheduled to go to trial Aug. 4.

The case, Jane Doe vs. Clifford Robinson, alleges that the basketball star infected the woman with the herpes virus.

Robinson's (pictured, left) attorneys have previously denied that Robinson has herpes.

Attorneys Elbert L. Hatchett, Frederick M. Toca Jr., and Darryl K. Segars of the law firm of Hatchett, DeWalt & Hatchett, representing Jane Doe, say they have proved their client's claim that Robinson infected her with the disease.

They say Robinson has tested positive for herpes simplex I and II, vindicating their plaintiff's $20 million claim.

The law firm said there are two pending cases against Robinson, according to a press release it issued Wednesday.

Details of the case of Jane Doe vs. Clifford Robinson are expected to be announced by the law firm at a press conference Wednesday.

The firm is calling its client Jane Doe to protect the woman's identity.
