It is interesting the talk about playing Johnson, and also Mundy, in the midfield in a similar vein to Koutafides or Goodes. I struggle to see it, and am wondering what others think.
Johnson does not seem to be in the same athletic aechelon as Kouta was. It also seems to me that if Johnson can learn to become a more negating backman, then he is exactly what we need in the backline; a bit more hieght and pace than some of the other talls we have down there. Goodes also looks like he has more speed, but it is difficult to say really.
Mundy to me carries the ball better than Johnson and would seem better suited, but I love his ability to set up play from the backline.
I also think that while it is generally said that we need more hieght in the midfield, a player like Johnson is going over the top. 187-190cm is a great combination with burst speed, endurance and skill. Crowley, Headland and Peake dimensions.
Like they did with Pavlich I like the way that they are exposing the players to different roles and training requirements, and think that versatility is a genuine asset for us at the moment.
