Kouta's attacks a bit rich - By Caro

i'm going to have to do some homework and come back to this debate. If I am wrong btgd i will come back and acknowledge it. I am relying on my past memories and i have always perceived Kouta as a player who had the potential to be one of the greats but never performed at a level he was capable of on a consistent basis. Sure he had games from time to time where he dominated. I remember one game against the Eagles at Princess PArk where he definetly did carry us to a win. But i don't remmeber him playing at the level of an elite player for a slong a period that u make out. Did he even win a best and fairest between 98 and 01? IF not then why not if he was carrying the team as you imply? Sorry Btgd i admire your passion for Kouta but i'm not convinced. I definetly have some things to say in regards to your last post but i want to do some research first. seeyou back here later.

To put in perspective the debate as to whether Kouta is a great or not I will list some of the Carlton players who have represented the club in my 38 years as a supporter, who I consider to be greats of our club:
Nicholls, Jesaulenko, Walls, Doull, Southby, 'Swan' McKay, Johnston, Hunter, Silvagni, Bradley, Kernahan, Williams, Andrew McKay.

Some of our very good players, but not greats, include Crosswell, Gallagher, Crane, Ashman, Maclure, Fitzpatrick, Harmes, Glascott, Dean, Ratten, Camporeale.

Kouta's efforts between '98 & 2000 were sensational, but when looking at his whole career how does he compare to the list of greats above? I personally don't think he belongs in with that group, more likely he belongs in the second group, the very good players.

Good post mediumsized. Agree though that Ratten and perhaps even Peter Dean should be in group one. Also think Fraser Brown would not be too far off group 2. Definitely prefer him to Campo.

Think Hunter definitely should be in group one but am not as big a fan of Walls as some others are. With Kouta whilst he is perhaps the most talented of all for mine he is a definite group 2.
