Hmmm, been very interested by the talk surrounding our spine at the moment, mostly the talk about FF. Seems that all the press has now jumped on the "forward line is too small" bandwagon since the score has dried up ....

I was in the Troy fan club, that of course changed once we started kicking winning scores with the smaller foward line ... Although I still think that having a big target is much more beneficial more times than not.

But for the press to start the BS about not having the right set-up, that's crazy ... it obviously does work, providing the ball gets down there ... perhaps they are pointing the finger at the wrong section of the team?

what this is building up to is this ... I don't think this will be our year, UNLESS, the midfield starts firing like it did v Collingwood, and Brisbane ... it is what we rely on, and ATM, is kind of AWOL, at some stage of the game at least. Actually, when we were getting beat by the Cats early, once again, the tackle stats were 20-10 down, with 5 from Fletcher, not sure what the final stat was ....

but in the future, I think our KP players will be capable of winning games too, in addition to our midfield. I think most people here rate Staker, Gaspar, McDougall, and see promise in Glass and Lynch, it just all takes time, that's all.

Lynch has been good two weeks running at CHF for West Perth. Could do worse than stick him in the side atm.

I do believe that we need two players in the forward 50 who are tall and can mark. Embley and Jones are the closest we have at present. We need someone else to play as a proper forward target - might be McDougall, Staker, Gaspar or Lynch.

It isn't Wilson, Jakovich or Sierakowski on a sustainable basis.

once our KPP develop to complement our already strong AND young midfield, we will be a HUGE force in this competition.

thegur's pretty much on the money IMO, its the fact that our midfield has been down that's causing the forwards to look bad.

The main culprit at the moment I believe is Daniel Chick, either he's playing with an injury or he has no heart. Since the second of those has in the past been shown not to be true, I must assume that he's hurting. He seems to be having real trouble getting to the ball and chasing his opponents.

I'm also a bit worried about how Callum Chambers seems to back out of contests from time to time; hopefully Woosha will give him a serve about that as he's shown a bit otherwise since he's come back.

I actually think it's both - or rather the combination of midfield and forwards.

Normally in footy, you need tall marking forwards. Twas ever thus.

The reason we did so well earlier was the combination of midfield dominance and the speed with which we got the ball into the forward line so that players like Embley, Haynes, Matera and Sampi could get to the drop of the ball.

When you have no one to kick to and you're not winning the ball and getting it in quick, you're stuffed, because there aren't enough tall marking forwards to get you out of jail (except the amazing Rowan Jones, of course).

I still think that it is not sustainable to rely solely on a ball-winning midfield to dominate the AFL for the whole season - it's just too physically demanding. You need targets to kick to too (two). Tutu.

Its a case of....we have the cattle but they just need some more developing and time before they really start to perform. I think were on the right track.

Lynch proved last season he is capable up forward and would be the best option at the moment IMO, with the bonus of being able to pinch hit at CHB.

Staker needs a rest - had a couple of decent games but has fallen away sharply.

McDougall has shown glimpses but I'm not sold on him yet, likewise Gaspar - far too injury prone.

Hansen must be rooting Woosha's missus.

Glass ain't anything special, but he is consistent and at the moment thats a good thing.

Lynch and Aaron Edwards (rookie list player) were both excellent for the mighty West Perth on the weekend. Lynch should definately come into selection consideration - he might go a Chambers and impress us at AFL level.

For me, Haynes has dropped off in the last few weeks although I don't think dropping him would be all that good to his confidence.

Ok - let's get over this quick fix mentality - we have a young team and we are going to have downs. I personally believe we have the young kpp to be a force up forward. McDougall, Gaspar, Staker etc are only going to get better, and I do believe that the Staker/ McDougall FF?CHF combo is our future - with Gaspar down back.

I hope Doogs gets back in the team this week, and if Lynch is given a role it is down back.

As for Hansen, he is not up to standard at this stage. He will be delisted.
