He's a defender, if he was a forward we'd play him in defence or trade him but as a defender we can play him up forward where we need him. Right?

Strikes me as a really talented bloke whose decision making ability isn't as quick as it needs to be to be down back. He always looked more comfortable to me when he was playing forward

If we get plowman then forward.
if we resuscitate Liam's career then back.
if we get Carlisle then alternating with JC.
if foster plays then back.

new swingman. And Lachie* didn't adjust to being a permanent forward, so neither might KryYark.

I think swingmen are overrated. Jack of all trades master of none. Give me a specialist who makes a position his own. Like Armfield Centre Half Back.

A swingman is just a second rate way of patching holes in your structure. Make Jaksch a forward or a back, but don't take 5 years to decide where he fits best. Clearly it is often frustrating and the player ends up wanting to go somewhere his role is better defined (look at Carlisle, Henderson, Waite for examples).

If that forward line is so mobile, why was it last in the competition for forward pressure?
Unfortunately none of our forwards a known for their tackling pressure. Cas lays the occasional big tackle but 200cm blokes shouldn't be the main source of forward line pressure. Menz and Walker could barely run half the time this year. Everitt also seems to constantly attempt weak tackles that are easily broken or avoided, does any else notice this?
I assume this could mostly be fixed by better coaching/fitness.

Swimgmem are rubbish and so is Liam Jones no way that bloke will ever be AFL standard and anyone hoping to build a forward line around him is kidding themselves.

Would pay Jones out his contract and let him go complete joke Malthouse wanted him!!!!

No one at the club or on BigFooty has ever said CFC should build a forward line around him. Jones was a late speculative pick. The club knew he was struggling to get a game at the lowly placed Bulldogs and gave him an opportunity in the chance that MM and Co could turn his game around. Jones is not keeping anyone out of the forward line / team and sits in the same group consisting of Warnock, Tutt and the recently delisted group.

Yep, only complaint on the Jones pick-up was the 3-year deal.

Should have been 2, with an option for a third if he kicked 60+ goals over 2 years (or something along those lines).

Cost us peanuts, and filled a hole structurally. Suspect the longer deal was our/Malthouse's way of showing him he had our support.

I think Jaksch could end up being a Gunston type forward. Gunston is only listed at 84 kg at 193 cm. (Hawks website)

Yet Jaksch is listed at 196 cm and 90 kg (Carlton website). I'm not sure how accurate either of Jaksch figures are, I'd say he would maybe just be taller than Gunston and maybe a few kegs less.

But my point is that Gunston is not a large guy in terms of weight yet leads Hawthorns goal kicking. So he doesn't necessarily need to put on a lot and become a hulking forward. Just enough to hold his own in one on ones will do. He should use movement to his advantage similarly to Gunston, that should be his goal.

Should have been 1 year and a lower pick. I think WB got Caleb Daniel with the pick we gave them who is looking pretty good.

Was anyone else even chasing LJ at the time?

Going to go out on a limb and say because that forward line existed in maybe 2 games in 2015 lol.

Compare that linup to a team like the Hawks who have no trouble scoring and its similar in style.

Same as my thoughts I posted a moment ago before reading this. It would be nice to have the luxury of two massive forwards like Sydney, GWS or West Coast, but other teams show that it's far more important to have a midfield that delivers it well and contributes goals than numerous huge KPFs.

Jaksch just has to be groomed by Bolts as a defender..Weights and Decision making is what he needs to improve on over Summer...This football club needs bookends before it will take even the smallest of steps forward. Start making inroads to the backline leaking like siv, add a forward who can present and kick and the sun starts to shine....Jaksch needs to be that dour tough defender...Jamieson is almost cooked !

Can we leave Jones out of this thread.

Thanks!
Some people can't help themselves. Almost an indecent obsession.
I'd play him forward. Reads the ball well and is a good kick for goal.
Jaksch is not an option forward or back at the moment. He needs a work ethic before he plays the sort of football we require from him. Over summer he needs to train his arse off and get a body more befitting a footballer. Once he's turned himself into a beast and has second and third efforts then he plays where the team needs him.
