I hope creating a new thread for this sort of thing is appropriate.
My wife was admitted to hospital going back about 6 weeks ago now. She remains there, on the mend, but it will be a long slow process. (This thread obviously isn't about her). We have 3 kids - a 10yo boy who is a Saints tragic, a 7 yo daughter and a 2yo boy (terrorist). As you can imagine, my wife misses her babies terribly as we can only visit for a couple of hours at a time maybe 3 times a week.
At the start of this school term, I had to advise our local school that my wife was sick long term, and wouldn't be able to run the main fundraising event for the school this year. We are only a small school, and she is quite well known by all the teaching staff. News soon got around that she was sick.
As luck would have it, the Saints had scheduled 3 players to visit our school on that same day. The teachers were well aware that our oldest boy is a Saints nut, and asked the players if they would mind spending perhaps 5 minutes with him 1-on-1 considering what our family is going through at the moment.
The players were only too happy to do so. In fact, they spent more than 30 minutes with him (in their own time), playing kick to kick, and even singing the theme song as a group together. Suffice to say, he was over the moon and will never forget.
Many thanks to Jimmy Webster, Bailey Rice and whomever the 3rd person was (I haven't been able to figure that out, but suspect it might have been one of the international rookies).
My boy wrote a letter to the club expressing his thanks.
Fast forward to today..... I'm in the Epworth visiting my wife, and suggested we head downstairs into the courtyard so she can enjoy some of the beautiful sunshine. As we hop into the lift there is Bailey Rice standing there. I approached him, reminded him of the school visit, and thanked him very much for the time he took with our boy. It was great my wife was there also, as she was able to explain to him in person how much it meant to her to see her boy filled with joy at such a difficult time for us.
Bailey courteously thanked us for our acknowledgement, and it's clear our little fella made an impression on him, as he laughed out loud when I reminded him of the day.
If that's a window into the culture of our young playing group, then we are in good hands I say!
PS - yes, bad news, Bailey has broken a figure, which will probably keep him out of action for a week or two.
