I hope creating a new thread for this sort of thing is appropriate.

My wife was admitted to hospital going back about 6 weeks ago now. She remains there, on the mend, but it will be a long slow process. (This thread obviously isn't about her). We have 3 kids - a 10yo boy who is a Saints tragic, a 7 yo daughter and a 2yo boy (terrorist). As you can imagine, my wife misses her babies terribly as we can only visit for a couple of hours at a time maybe 3 times a week.

At the start of this school term, I had to advise our local school that my wife was sick long term, and wouldn't be able to run the main fundraising event for the school this year. We are only a small school, and she is quite well known by all the teaching staff. News soon got around that she was sick.

As luck would have it, the Saints had scheduled 3 players to visit our school on that same day. The teachers were well aware that our oldest boy is a Saints nut, and asked the players if they would mind spending perhaps 5 minutes with him 1-on-1 considering what our family is going through at the moment.

The players were only too happy to do so. In fact, they spent more than 30 minutes with him (in their own time), playing kick to kick, and even singing the theme song as a group together. Suffice to say, he was over the moon and will never forget.

Many thanks to Jimmy Webster, Bailey Rice and whomever the 3rd person was (I haven't been able to figure that out, but suspect it might have been one of the international rookies).

My boy wrote a letter to the club expressing his thanks.

Fast forward to today..... I'm in the Epworth visiting my wife, and suggested we head downstairs into the courtyard so she can enjoy some of the beautiful sunshine. As we hop into the lift there is Bailey Rice standing there. I approached him, reminded him of the school visit, and thanked him very much for the time he took with our boy. It was great my wife was there also, as she was able to explain to him in person how much it meant to her to see her boy filled with joy at such a difficult time for us.

Bailey courteously thanked us for our acknowledgement, and it's clear our little fella made an impression on him, as he laughed out loud when I reminded him of the day.

If that's a window into the culture of our young playing group, then we are in good hands I say!

PS - yes, bad news, Bailey has broken a figure, which will probably keep him out of action for a week or two.

Bad news mate, sorry to hear about your wife, glad to hear about our club helping ease some of the stress on your kids though. Good luck to your family with the treatment and hopefully the Saints can keep your spirits high with some wins.

Gee....I hope your wife is on the road to a great recovery...fingers crossed.

That was absolutely awesome what the players did.........really fantastic hearing experiences like that.....

The little things in dire times can create huge uplifts.

Good luck with things and all the best.

What a heartwarming post!
So great to hear that the guys are prepared to do these little things which mean so much to others. Your little boy will never forget it.

Sending my very best wishes to your wife for a speedy and complete recovery.
And to you and the kids too.

Good luck to your wife, I hope she recovers well . Must be hard looking after all the little boys so something like the saints visit means a lot to your family . Glad you got Rice , I think he will become a great player once he cracks into the side.

This is generally a great site for Saints fans.
Sure, at times we dont see eye to eye and we get some chest puffing and slanging matches.
But overall we are like a big dysfunctional loving family for Saints tragics.
And nobody like to hear of a member of our Saints family doing it tough so best wishes go out to your wife . We all hope she is feeling better as soon as possible.
And thanks for sharing the good positive story about the Saints players.
They do so much good in the community that usually goes unnoticed.

G'day BrainsTrust

She was released from hospital on Saturday to a hospital in the home arrangement. It's been great for the family/kids that she's back home after 6 weeks. Pretty much confined to the couch for an indeterminate period with readmission still likely at some point.

But for now we're just happy to have her home!

I couldn't believe what the world was coming to when those 4 Tigers were stopped at the front door of a primary school yesterday for not having working with children's checks!!

Glad you have her home with you and the kids even if it's off and on at least it's something. And I'm sure she would rather be at home , surrounded by her things and her family.

Yeah this world is crazy, full of red tape. Somebody tries to make some kids happy and all this red tape gets in the way. I don't blame the school as someone has come up with that rule in the first place , probably justified his or her job for another year by coming up with that garbage.
