So what s this kid worth for trading. I have havent seen or heard much on this kid apart from at his 3rd AFL club? We need a defender but with the likely hood of getting Giles wouldnt think Adelaide have much more to offer than a 3rd round!

He's not a world beater, You get a bloke who will always work hard with his oppotunities

Interesting that Cheney is rated a class above VFL but his tasks on the monster forwards have found him out a bit. How do you rate him in comparison to Shoenmakers?

Cheney is a soldier in the words of the Hawthorn coach. He will do whatever it takes no questions asked to the best of his ability and leave nothing left over. Schoey's is much maligned on this board even before his knee reco. He was thrust to the wolves because there was no other alterntives. His season this year started pretty well as can be seen by the best and fairest votes. However coming of a reco schoey's form and fitness waned as the season progressed and he ended up out of the side and playing poorly by the end of the season. If you were to ask me Schoey has more upside than Cheney. I just hope he can get the best out of himself as the kid does have talent.

Cheney is a funny on alright. I think his issue is that he is a jack of all, master of none:

- Good tank for a non-mid
- Good size / pretty strong
- Good in an (equal/fair) contest
- Good decision maker
- Good hands
- Good kick
- Good with a ground ball / loose ball
- Good tackler
- Decent height

The only thing he is elite in is attitude - which, whilst great is rarely enough.

Alternatively I would say all our best 22 are elite in at least 1 area.

All AFL players I think must be elite in at least one area.

If Cheney was to make it - I think his only chance is to keep working on his strength and get elite - i.e impossible to bring down in a tackle and though he shouldnt play on them at 1.86m - able to hold his own in a wrestle with a Gorilla.

He will never be able to get taller, faster, or learn to jump higher - if he can get stronger without further losing pace I could see him being a bit like Josh Hunt or Chappy.

Always rated Cheney, could never u derstand how he never got a game at Melbourne, whereas at Hawthorn he was made to play KPD, and zauitted himself well at a job he is physically unsuited for. Like many ex-hawks, I think he will thrive,granted the opportunity to play regular senior football. After their faux top four finish in 2012, Adelaide need all the help they can get.
