I'm still willing to bet that this year is an outliner in terms of Shooter's role and we will all be better off with him in the team in the long run. He (and the team) will be better placed in a less injury-affected forward line where he will be playing his true role.

It's also worth noting that he has still managed to kick the second most goals for the Pies this year....

Our only regular forward was Him, Hille, Mihocek and Elliot... He only beat Elliot/Mihocek due to their injuries... So basically came 2/2

You don’t think he would have benefited and had a more consistent role without injuries to Cox, Mihocek, Elliott, McCreery, McStay? He could well have kicked more goals with those players around him regularly.

Better be an outlier. 28 next year, then the decline will begin,.,.,,,.,,,,

I think longer-term, he was recruited for the Elliott role, having come a year earlier than planned for family reasons. He's obviously not on Jamie's level in that role, but that's not his fault - few are.

He'll be a solid contributor for the coming years - also able to largely play a pressure role if Beau transitions to more of a FT mid role.

It'd be a lot fairer on him if we stopped linking him with the ridiculous price we coughed up for him.

Another typically hyperbole-fuelled response from someone who (I'm now having to assume) thinks everyone should get a gold star and a pat on the back whether they've done something well or not.

Failure and the criticism that comes with it (both self- and external) is an actual driver of improvement last time I checked, people are so frigging sensitive about any form of non-positive feedback nowadays it's almost pathetic.

If you can't handle seeing a bit of criticism without hysterically blowing it up to infer something that wasn't written or said and without becoming ultra-defensive about it then, with all due respect, you can feel free to piss off and moan about the bad people who have non-positive things to say to someone who actually cares.

TL;DR - Both Schultz and our coaching panel have some work to do to improve on things they didn't appear to do well enough this year, hopefully those failures are the sort of driver for some real improvement. Giving everyone a pass grade, a pat on the back and then just glossing things over regardless of how they've performed is not how we will get to where we want to be.

I havent seen schultz blow up when he's been interviewed and I havent seen him hysterical. He's the one actually playing the game, not people posting in BF. To me, he's put a lot of pressure on himself and he's not used to the scrutiny that he is now getting. To me, he looks a bit like chris mayne mk 2, at the moment. If we keep bagging him, we should be able to break him completely.

Yeah he will be a good in terms of filling the role he's meant to.

Hopefully he can clean up his fumbling and goal kicking, they would be my 2 main gripes with his performances across the season.

He's a solid fp just not a top 6 to 10 draft pick solid.

Not just goals though - he just hasn't been as composed with the ball as I was expecting, considering the hype of him being an AA standard small forward (I hadn't paid any attention to him previously). Everything else about his game is very good though. So I'm hoping him being rushed and fluffing chances this year has been a transition and pressure thing that he'll overcome next year. Was he more composed with the footy at Freo?

I have similar thoughts on him.

His role at Fremantle was to get involved up the ground marking, where he is very strong overhead, and then moving the ball on without the pressure then running back start deeper towards goal to score.

Collingwood appear to be playing him in between those two, I wouldn't say he is a goal assist small forward - he can finish and he can kick it to the guy who kicks it to the guy who scores. Almost all the goals I remember from Schultz were set shots within 35m, general play goals where he collects the ball within 20m etc.

How composed was he at Freo when he received the ball up the field?

His issue at Collingwood is when he receives the ball up the field he’s like an headless chook.

Atm he’s best games have come when he’s been used mostly as secondary marking target close to goals.

His marking is the weapon, aside from work rate, and given he marked the ball up field for us he wasn't rushed to get it on the boot.

That close to goal role is the one he should play.

His best footy with us this year was in that role when Elliott was out. He was good. Struggled to link up when Jamie was in and he was getting it higher up the ground.

Unfortunately for the game, Elliott won't be available too much longer for that.

It was Carl blowing up mate, could have perhaps made that a bit clearer but kind of thought that was obvious.

well does it matter if carl blows up? in fact it might be a good thing....leave schultz to get his head over the constant pressure he's on to meet expectations....and i have to confess that concentration isnt my strong point when i'm reading this site.

He makes me sick. Just delist him and accept it’s an error! Move on and cut your losses! He is a liability!!
Tell Fly or his team-mates. They will laugh their ass of right back at ya.
You're the BF liability
