Player Watch Lachlan Sholl

Our coaches know he's struggling. That's why he was dropped from the 22 previously after Maynard tossed him aside like confetti

Even on the weekend he was getting torched by Nick Martin early, who was an aerial presence at both ends of the field.

Sholl simply not good enough / strong enough to go with him so they had to swap him to the other wing.

They know. So why don't they remember when it comes to the next week's selection?
He couldn't get a sniff of a game in the 2nd half of last year no matter how he played in the SANFL. Now he seemingly can't be dropped no matter how he plays.

There's just some really stubborn selection policies the past two years where they seemingly chop and change their minds on who they use, but once they do they lock in on that guy no matter what.

Trying to see if he can recapture his early season form but we've seen for over a month now he can't.......

Are we too focused on the system and not addressing individual deficiencies in the system?

What's happened to the lads kick and decision making?

It's dropped off, at least to my eye. Not sure what the statistics are saying.

He's never been and never will be a contested player, so his ability to positively impact a game depends on his foot skills.

Thought it was the best it has been in a long time on the weekend - despite the easy opposition.

Saturday's game was a good result for Sholl.

The issue is that he plays like that in 1 game out of 10 and it really needs to be 6/7 out of 10 games he plays that way.

At AFL level I think his best is still better than other fringe/bottom 22 players in Jones, Murphy, Ned, Cook, Hamill, Parnell, Gollant, etc.

Still don't want him in the 22, but to be fair to him, he has improved from last year.
No he hasn’t he’s the same as he’s always been, even last year he had a few mid-20s possession games, finding the ball especially against weak opposition has never been an issue for him.

Was thinking during that North game he must’ve really worked closely with Smith during his time at the club because he has mastered the art of finding space and getting a handball receive right on the defensive 50 arc when he’s right up against boundary line and only choice he has is to just bomb the ball whilst under pressure straight up the line to no-one in particular. It’s a smart play because it looks good on the stat sheet (metres gained ect.) and takes decision making totally out of the equation as a player.

He's exactly the type of footballer you don't want. Racks up easy stats against witches hats, but will get found out easily vs tougher sides and especially in a finals environment.

We need a combination of tough insiders and KPP coupled with skilled outsiders and line breakers. Not a combination of Rory Atkins and the worst parts of Brodie Smith, which is what Sholl is.

He also completely falls apart before about round 18 so he would be useless in finals and not worth investing games into

He's more effective imo. I thought he was trash last year though and was having zero influence.

Not saying I want him in the 22 going forward.

Handy player when the pressures down but there's nothing more certain than Scholl losing big moments in big games. Coaches know it too, what's the point flicking him in and out of the side.

Was good tonight
💯.

Maybe he could become the magical shape keeper at HF instead of McHenry- he’s got good aerobic endurance plus much better skills and decision making ability, then Nankervis moves back to the wing where I think he’s best suited.

Much better game from him last night.

Really liked his mark and goal from the pocket. Could have easily had a Rachelle like moment but stoot firm, took the mark and kicked well.

I didn’t love his game, but he’s pushed ahead of Jones in the queue for sure, now

Being able to put up numbers like that against a decent side is a promising sign
