Roast Lack of Effort/Workrate

As we saw Today we dominated 1st Qtr as we where Working Harder and more Effort then Carlton then Carlton Lifted and we Just Dropped of Badly and Blues ran Circles around us in the Last Half.

Been same in Most Games we can only Manage 1 Good Qtr but the games we have Won either been we been solid for 2 Qtrs or the Oppostion where as bad.

This Badly need to be Changed

Not sure if it was effort ,more bad skill errors or a combination of both. Last week we had players playing above their normal level this week it was back to crap.

Our Terrible Skills does not help

We’re relying on too few at the moment especially around the footy. DeGoey has had a good month, Pendlebury now appears capable moments of vintage brilliance rather than the consistent numbers he once got and Adams a good quarter against the tigs as he builds back to fitness. Returning Crisp who’s played back the last fortnight to the midfield mix would help, and possibly the seemingly out of favour Sier, but we don’t have many more options currently.

I agree with Dave. Our work rate was poor after the first 45 minutes of the game, and non existent in the last quarter. It was noticeable just how much harder Carlton were running, tackling and pressuring in the last quarter than we were.It wasn’t just skills, our work rate just went off a cliff in the last quarter.

Sidebottom looks done for mine. He goes no where near the ball anymore. Looks lost when he gets it.

Thats why we need an experienced new coach to sort this mob out.

I thought turnovers cost us horribly yesterday. Then when Carlton got a run on, no one stood up, and in particular the "senior experienced " players went missing. The midfield is also completely non competitive at times, and they just gave up in the last quarter yesterday, the old CBF's....

From about half way through the third quarter I knew Adams was cooked and with Pendles and Sidey both having "one of their off days" together, our mids were hopelessly exposed. I kept seeing the image of Harves up in the coaches box, mask covering his face as his midfield sunk us deeper and deeper into the mire. "Why don't you change it up Harves? Give Maynard a go in there....or Crisp...even Quaynor for a few minutes....something??"

But it stayed the same and as the quarter closed you knew that Walsh and Dow and their mates could smell blood. I'd realised that without the injured Cripps holding them back this week that they'd use speed out of the middle. Petrevski-Seaton always plays well against us as does Jack Martin and once the Blues had their tails up, those sorts of outside players enjoyed dissecting our tired defence.

JDG played a lone hand in the middle. He kept moving and taking the handball receives but with little help from Cal Brown (who got clipped in the early part of the first quarter---see the shiner) or the older brigade it was left to Elliott to try and get centre clearances (as well as kick goals!) and not having JT to insert into the mids....the cupboard was bare.

Harves....for goodness sakes we have to accept that Pendles and Sidey are our own versions of "Silk Burgoyne"... they can still play....but not as mids for any longer than about 5 minutes each quarter. They need to take on other roles now and we just have to suck it up and play Sier and Reef and Fin McCrae ( not all in together!) over the last few weeks. Sides will continue to use speed against us in the mids and we simply cannot keep up with the old and the injured in there.

Great summation there. Our midfield is too old and too thin.If Adams has a bad day like he did yesterday, then we’re basically stuffed. We definitely need to inject more youth in there like Sier,Macrae, and Reef( when he’s fit enough)

Yep. Play the Kids as the Midfield we have at the Moment is Poor Outside of Pendles and Adams and Maybe De Goey

I was having a discussion with a non Pies supporter and we both agreed (in the end) you just cant change 10 years of Bucks in a matter of weeks, especially the young players - you just cant go from what we had to manic down the middle, you still need to have a cool head on you and pick the right options going forward, this is a work in progress but TBH we do lack talent & skill at the moment.

What I will say is that Bianco is outstanding because of skill and this is where N Daicos will shine!

Problem we don't have many Good Players in there Prime at the Moment mostly Kids and Older Players

The kids aren't going to make the midfield any better. Name one 'kid' who would strengthen our midfield if played this week?

Yeah but there's more to it than looks TGG
So the team is better served by playing C Brown for 10-15 ordinary possessions and sub standard disposals rather than a 25-30 possession game with a bunch of clearances from Sier? I would rather trust the evidence supplied by my eyes than a bunch of meaningless statistics ignoring the fact that the midfielder was absolutely smashed by his opponent.

You have to expect these sort of efforts will come on a fairly regular basis for the foreseeable future while the list turnover is still happening and we're in limbo in terms of our playing style (or "brand", but I hate that term tbh). To be fair it's not like we haven't been delivering disappearing acts like this on a regular basis in the past, even back when we were a more settled and balanced team.

The key aspect a team has to tick off before being considered a good team or even a contender on the next level is closing the gap between their best and worst football from week to week and that gap for us is obviously an immense gulf at the moment and has been for some time now (even back as far as the latter half of the 2019 if I'm being honest about it). Seeing us slip back further and have these sort of issues against poor teams like the scum isn't really a surprise, given that the quality of our even our best performances this year is very much diminished compared to a couple of years ago.

In the end we have to remind ourselves that our club is what it is at the current point in time and we will have some awful slip ups like this from time to time where in the past we might have gotten out of jail with a short burst of good football against the run of play.

I'm with You.. I've replaced Brown with Sier in "my changes" post. But not because he's more attractive;)
