disagree, injuries and suspensions to major players have killed us this year. Eliminate those two factors and we would be right up there.

Injuries and suspensions are no excuse, every team has them i.e Hawks, Magpies, Kangeroos, Lions, Cats, Dogs, Crows, etc all have had decent wins over the top eight sides, where we have not. Injuries and suspensions did not kill us this year it was our poor decision making, ball use and lack of confidence that saw us fall to where we are.

Commentators were spot on - the way we played tonight we could have beaten nearly anyone, so I don't count us out against the Pies - who struggled against Port - by a long shot. Geelong are just that much better.

Hall looked incredible, Buchanan was a positive sign, and Kirk was just his reliable self all night.

concide, a combination of all these things does not bode very well for a finals place. Swans have not continued to improve enough as a team since 06, where others have. whats even more bizarre is weagles fall from grace in 18 months. To think Swans and Weagles played consecutive GF's in 05/06. How quick the tide turns.

Sorry to say, but we better get used to it.........Robert Walls said tonight we need to rebuild like West Coast is if we are to challenge for the holy grail again.

And Robert Walls quickly conceded that that was impossible for Sydney to do when Hudson or Voss or whoever pointed out that Roos had raised the fact that if Swans rebuilt as the Eagles have, and ended up bottom 4, the shifting nature of the Sydney market would leave the Swans well down on finances.

This is true, but he also said he did not see Sydney challenging for a flag with its 30 plus players.

Admitedly Barry, Everitt and Matthews are definite retirees for this year - Leo's just not able to go a whole season anymore, he had a hammy injury end of last year as well - I think the rest can play on. Hall, Kirk, O'laughlin and Crouch have all shown that they are still able to match it with the best.

Keep them on, and just build a list that can slowly ease their load. As the commentators said, Sydney needs another marquee player for when Hall retires, but definately NOT Cousins, I would die if he came to the club.

These 'experts' and many others have been sending us backwards since 2002 when Roos took over. They were wrong then, and they'll be wrong in the future.

Sitting in their comfortable seats in Melbourne, they have absolutely no idea what our list is capable of. Until they do, I will disregard any opinion they have of our side.

I've being doing ladder predictions frantically each week to make sure we're still looking good for the 4th spot, as I imagine most Swans/Crows/Pies/Kangas fans all have, and it all seems to hinge on the Collingwood game. Lose that, and it's sudden death. Win it, we're quite likely to nab the spot.

Sadly, I think they do have an idea, they said it last night that we looked second rate against the leagues benchmark, but then again so do many other teams.

I hope you are right. But going by our past performances against the top eight sides and with our ageing list I think there onto something. Its great we are blooding new kids and this will eventually replace our old timers, but success (challenge for a flag) in the immediate future is very unlikely until this transition has completed, which is by no means an overnight operation.

Yep. Remember we bombed out last year. If we do that again this year then you can only say that they (our critics) were "on to something" some time ago. Unless of course you want to argue that it isn't ALL about being in premiership contention.

I don't think I need to wait til EOY to say they are onto something, our chances this year in the finals are less optimistic then they were last year, based on our form against the top eight sides this year. BTW its all about premiership contention, there is no prize for second place.

Remember last year many tipped us for bottom four this year.

Quickly changed their tune this year when we were in top four saying "always thought Sydney could still match it with the best", but we've still far exceeded expectations.

We need to recruit a strong defender and a strong forward, so then Leo can retire, and ease up the load on MOL and Hall before they retire end of next year.

This was exactly my point above. They don't have a clue. They are like financial analysts. They have a crack. If they are right, they boast about it. If they are wrong, they pretend it never happened.

Look to when Dunkley, Kelly, Schwass etc retired. Everyone said THEN we'd be a basket case. We were expected to be bottom 4 in our PREMIERSHIP year, let alone this year.

They may well be right about it, however, they are having at best a stab in the dark.
