I've always found Laneway to be a bit dumb with their scheduling. It's inevitable bands you like will clash with other bands you like, but Laneway always put obvious acts so close to one another. I remember the first time I went they had Yuck and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart on at the same time – and both were half the reason I decided to go. Their cross over would have been massive and in the end Yuck essentially broke up a few weeks later and now piss on as some half arsed attempt quasi-cover act.

They also need to maximise the bigger artists by biting the bullet and have some play at 3pm instead of cramming six of the biggest artists all in the 8-11pm slots. With most dates it's light until 8:30 anyway so it's not like stage lighting'll be prominent. I know and think it's cool they don't have headliners, but do they have to put the electronic acts on last every single date every single year?!

And yeah sure bands have scheduled flights and that's something you have to cop and accept, but I don't know, it seems to pop up way more for Laneway than anyone else. It's probably their taste in music I guess, though.

It's weird, they change the set times for each city. I remember last year looking at other city's timetables going sucked in, whilst I stayed on the main 2 stages and just saw back to back live performances from all the artists I wanted. Haim, Lorde, chrvches, cloud control, the jezabels, vance joy, Daughter. No clashes

They have to change every city for all sorts of reasons; some cities have evenly sized stages suitable to all bands while some have to manage who can fit on what. Then there's the issue of the transport bands might have already paid for (ie they get in too late to play before 3pm, but they fly out at 9pm), while there's also light and sound restrictions in some states (uhh... WA...).

Not a huge fan of him on record, it's more just pleasant back ground music for me, but I thought Mac DeMarco was super fun live (saw him at his sideshow on Tuesday).

seemed to be at a critical mass on saturday. was absolutely packed. crowd was really varied... i had a much better day at sugar mountain.

did anyone catch future islands? or st vincent? i just kind of parked it at the main stage and only moved for jon hopkins and various stuff earlier in the day. so, interested to hear how they went. i saw fka twigs for the second time in 9 days, and im totally smitten ( how cute's that lisp? :hearts::hearts::hearts::hearts::hearts::hearts::hearts:) but i just thought it was shit that two of the iconic songs of 2014 - two weeks and seasons - were being played at basically the same time on opposite sides of the venue.

I saw Future Islands briefly from a fair distance away (one of my friends got kicked out because he took off his wristband so I missed most of it while we sorted it out). They drew a pretty massive crowd and the lead singer pretty much just did those handful of moves he did on Letterman over and over again. It looked like a good show.

Went to the Freo Laneway was impressed by all I saw.
Royal Blood were insane, the sound and energy the extract from the two of them was insane.
SOHN was very impressive, much better sound live than his album.
Not really a hip hop fan but was impressed by Raury, who i found out does much more than Hip Hop.
Seen Pond numerous times but they never fail.
BANKS slightly underwhelming, relied on backing track way too much.

Needed to schedule better for melbourne. As others have mentioned make it appealing by having bigger artists play from 3 thus less clashes

Yeah I caught both and they were really good. Also watched Caribou in between and despite not really being my thing, the energy was great. Much noise has been made about when the rain came down as it got dark and they played that one song and it was indeed a significant moment.

Caribou was my highlight. Incredible performance, but everything just went right. Almost 40 degrees all day, then the rain comes in halfway through the first song, crowd goes wild. I managed to a spot only a few rows back and the expression on his face looking into the crowd was almost one of disbelief. There was just the feeling that it was something special. Then the rain coming back for Odessa, probably the danciest sond of the set, and full darkness hitting for Can't Do Without You. There was even a moshpit!

All those would fit into the Laneway ethos.

Have seen both HEALTH and Beach House before and both were great.

I reckon the new HEALTH LP would actually suit a festival quite well. Good to see they changed it up a bit and started really embracing their pop sensibilities. They can actually write some decent hooks.

I would've listened to Get Colour about 100+ times. A 6 year gap between albums was going to result in a different sound.

All of Ducktails cover art is good. As an album I like Arcade Dynamics best.

Word. Matt is a friend of mine, and I'm really stoked on this album. Would've been perfect for Laneway as well. We've only had solo Ducktails tours before.

Did you meet him when he was like, living here for six months?

Heard some bizarre things about his stay, no idea whether they're true or not.
