Laneway 2016

Still the only one day festival I bother going to every year.

Happy with the lineup.

Starting to get a little bit worried that they are going away from the "one album punt" and are starting to now get a bit of cross over crowd.

One of the main advantages of Laneway is the lack of muscly douchebags and its general feel is a lot different to nearly all other festivals.

I'm annoyed Flume is playing. Such a cop out by the promoters and just means you'll get a bunch of flogs who know 2 of his songs buying tickets.

The 3 big female acts, CHVRCHES, Grimes, Purity Ring similar to a few years ago with CHVRCHES, Haim, Lorde.

As I've mentioned in another thread though, they still get acts out that other festivals wouldn't touch - and that's great.

I still don't think they're that adventurous with names. Definitely not anymore. It was really cool to see them bring out Yuck and The Pains of Being Pure at Heart but come on, as you've alluded to, they're not being that obscure. The days of getting Les Savy Fav are unfortunately gone. Laneway to me is kind of only half a degree away from Falls and Splendour – AKA the only other viable music festivals still around.

Why they've brought back CHVRCHES, who I can't imagine being that good live, after they were here two years ago seems a bit lame – as you said, a little contrarian to their original intent.

Picked up a ticket this morning. I've decided I think it's quite a good lineup of bands, even if it isn't your typical Laneway lineup. If any other single day festival had a lineup like it I probably would have bought a ticket without thinking

Anyway, real keen. A couple of my all time favourite live bands on the bill, as well as some of my favourute new bands. Also tgere are plenty of new bands that I haven't heard a lot from to discover, and such a broad range of genres. The fact you could potentially see Vince Staples into The Smith Street Band into Beach House into Grimes is aways exciting

It's not just in Melbourne, it's all over the country. The amount of people who go to these festivals without any knowledge of majority of the bands is ridiculous. My brothers girlfriend, who lives Chris Brown etc, wants to go purely cause of flume and her mates going. I mean, there's no point getting mad at this, it's reality but it's such a frustrating thing. I remember seeing Animal Collective once at a sold out Capitol and people weren't even paying attention and chatting during the show. Once "My Girls" came on, they danced and then immediately went back to chatting after it. It's this mentality that ruins shows and festivals for me personally.

Ugh, MPP era AC was a whole different level with the fair-weather fans. Still yet to see a album since then that has had a huge impact on those types of fans with what MPP did.

2007 line up was the best in my opinion, it worked perfectly. As posters above have mentioned it is just another festival like Falls these days.

Also they should change the name. It wasn't that established in St Jerome's laneway to really need to take the title with them.

Purity Ring are one of the best live acts I've seen. Decent line-up, Flume should drop an album hopefully before this rolls around.

Second this 100%. Worth the price of admission alone.

Disappointed when I looked up The Goon Sax and realised they were boring. There name for some reason led me to believe they would be kind a raw bluesy post-punk band

Aren't they an unearthed high band that are only playing Brisbane anyway?

The Knack?

One hit wonders...
The amusing thing about this is that their popular song, if you mean 'My Sharona' actually sounds like an average third single for a successful band.

Goes to show if you just want that one hit, get a song out before the most succesful artist of the time does a third single. Assuming the first is short, quick, and open to an enigma for the the upcoming album, and the second is softer and more of a ballad.

I'm thinking about going. Just to be more social with friends, the bands are just a plus. I'd like to see Beach House and Metz although I'm sure their sideshows would be superior.
