So i'm guessing not too many people here will care, but in a matter of months the Large Hadron Collider is being turned on for the first time.
For those that don't know the LHC is possibly the most complex construction humanity has ever created, it has so far cost over $10,000,000,000 and is roughly 30km wide, fairly deep underground near the Switzerland/France border.
The LHC uses electromagnetic fields to make proton atoms spin and collide at 99.99% of the speed of light, when atoms collide at this speed it is theorized that for the first time we could see a Higgs Boson, or a "God particle" as they are sometimes called.
"God particles" are quite literally the very fabric of the universe, and if we manage to produce one the ramifications for physics and technology are incredible. The capabilities of this collider are so impressive that some scientists theorize it could create black holes, and potentially destory part of the Earth or even Solar System. This part however is highly unlikely.
So anyway guys if you've read this far, make sure to research further because this really is a massive, massive tech development.. Maybe the biggest so far in history if it works.
