A PART of Melbourne dies on Friday - the Naughton's Hotel in Parkville is calling last drinks.
A mainstay to university students, political apparatchiks and Carlton footy teams, Naughton's - built in 1873 - was more than a pub, it was a part of Melbourne's fabric.

Won't mean a lot to a lot of the younger posters but all of the older carlton people will all remmeber having a drink in naughtons.

My favourite memory of Naughtons was the monday after the 95 Grand Final win, I was 16 and over from Perth with my old man for the granny.

The whole club was at the pub and it was a great atmosphere with players mixing with supporters. The older blokes like harry, sticks and diesel relaxing quietly having a beer and then the young pups like brad pearce, kouta, christou and co were a bit more lively.

This news seriously saddens me.

Absolute ****ing joke.

I hope this 'overseas-based property developer' understands the impact his actions will have on such a massive portion of the Melbourne community. I don't undertand how a place like this hasn't been heritage listed in the first place?

it's a disgrace that the gov. keep bringing things in to hurt businesses like this one. Pubs, clubs and music venus are getting the raw end of the stick more and more, no doubt.

Very fond memories of Naughton's during the early 80s in my Uni Days - celebrated the 81 and 82 flags their on Mad Monday and also in 83 the morning of Australia II's win in the America's Cup - that was a huge day as well.

Actually spent a lot of afternoons at Naughtons instead of the Ballieu which is probably why my degree took a year longer than scheduled. :p

Naughton's died about 5-6 years ago when they were bought out by Tooheys.

Now it's just official.

They used to sponsor my cricket team. We'd be in the front bar every Friday after training.....some good memories........but we took our business elsewhere the day they sold out local Brewers and thrust Toohey's New upon us.
