Its clear the NRL are playing the Prelims at Night to get the highest possible ratings because Channel 9 asked them to do it. If they wanted the highest possible crowds then they would of stayed on Saturday Night, Sunday Afternoon.

That's crap.

The Sunday Final on Week 1 (Storm v Eels) rated better than the Friday Night Final (Knights v Manly).

I know your not the smartest person in the world but what do the ratings from Week 1 of THIS YEARS Finals Series have to do with the NRL's decision to move the time and dates of the Prelim Finals which was made BEFORE the Finals Series even started??? Its not like the NRL a fortnight ago all of a sudden decided to move the dates of the Prelims.

If the ratings have fallen (and I really doubt they have) as well as the crowds then the move wasn't a smart move was it??? But we'll wait until the figures come in to make that judgement, but seriously if you think the Prelims are being played at Night to improve crowds rather than ratings you are seriously kidding yourself.

I know you're not the smartest person in the world but they relate because they are finals played on the Friday Night and Sunday Afternoon timeslots!

Guess what! They sound like the same timeslots that the NRL have changed for this year's preliminary finals!

RUGBY LEAGUE FINAL SERIES QF 1 Nine 856,000
RUGBY LEAGUE FINAL SERIES QF 4 Nine 901,000

More people in Sydney wanted to watch the game between a NSW team and a Melbourne team on a Sunday Afternoon than watch two NSW teams in the first week!

I'll spell it out nice and clearly for you - the first week's final ratings proved that Friday Finals don't necessarily rate higher than Sunday Finals.

I'll give you some Preliminary final proof too by comparing this year's Friday Night Preliminary to last year's Sunday Afternoon Preliminary:

RUGBY LEAGUE FINAL SERIES PF 1 Nine 1,032,000 531,000 28,000 446,000 11,000 16,000 (Broncos/Bulldogs Crowd 29,511)

Cowboys v Parramatta (source: http://pbl.com.au/media/pdf/2005/Australian Television Ratings - Week 40.pdf) 1.187 million - 725,000 Sydney and 445,000 Brisbane (Crowd: 44,327)

Looks like the NRL made a bad decision!

and I say they don't because they were played after the decision was made by the NRL when most likely they had FIGURES THAT SHOWED OTHERWISE. So this year the ratings show that fans want to watch day matches rather than night games. Well guess what??? Thats information the NRL didn't have at the time they made the decision 6 months or so ago and therefore what took place a fortnight ago DOESN'T RELATE to that decision other than to prove how foolish that decision was looking at it NOW, which was the ****ing point I was trying to make. Someone asked why the Prelims were moved to Nighttime and I told you why - ratings. Can't be any other possible reason.

RUGBY LEAGUE FINAL SERIES QF 1 Nine 856,000
RUGBY LEAGUE FINAL SERIES QF 4 Nine 901,000

Guess what I DON'T CARE what timeslots they are, they still have no bearing on a decision made months ago. Does that mean the drop in the NRL's GF's ratings we have seen over the past few years will mean we'll see a move back to a Sunday Afternoon Grand Final anytime soon or won't Channel 9 allow the NRL to do that????

More people in Sydney wanted to watch the game between a NSW team and a Melbourne team on a Sunday Afternoon than watch two NSW teams in the first week!

Good for them, still didn't effect the timeslot of the Prelims now did it????

I'll spell it out nice and clearly for you - the first week's final ratings proved that Friday Finals don't necessarily rate higher than Sunday Finals.

I'll spell it out nice and clearly for you too - I NEVER SAID IT DID. I said that they didn't use ratings from week 1 of this years finals series to make the decision on the time and date of this year Prelim Final. I also said that they would of made the decision why back at the start of the season to improve the ratings for the Prelim Finals and sadly for the NRL and Channel 9 that move backfired. What happened in week 1 had nothing to do with the thought patten of the NRL when making this decision.

Just proves that the move back fired on the NRL. Still it doesn't change the fact the Sunday Prelim was moved to Friday for ratings reasons and ratings alone. Pity for the NRL it didn't pay off because crowds are down as a result and they didn't deliver Channel 9 a ratings spike that I'm sure they would of been banking on.

Looks like the NRL made a bad decision!

Looks like they did.
