That's big news!

In onedayers or tests or both?

I reckon umps get it right most of the time and I reckon that it is a bit of a waste of time ... but I guess it's worth trialing.

I don't like it, human error is a part of Cricket.
When decisions go against you just put your head up and keep playing.

I thought they were only trialing it in the upcoming tournament in September.:confused:

It will be interesting to see how it works and what affect it has on the game.

Cheers!!

Yep, I think they are going to run with a trial period first, before making any decisions on using the 3rd umpire for LBW decisions full-time.

Sounds like a good idea, but there may be too many costly time delays. You can't take out human error in cricket though. Only time will tell if it's a worth while thing. :)

Cheers

Yes, it all sounds good in theory, but if you get an appeal every couple of overs, or even two in an over, how much less cricket are we going to see played over a day? I can't see it lasting beyond the trial period.

Yeah, I agree and it will just slow the game down even more and allow players an easy option to cheat by appealling for LBWs all the time.

It's worth trialling, but I agree with you Hippie, too much time will be wasted. In the end, for all the bad umpire decisions you get, you get goods one too and they end up balancing out anyway....

I see that the umpires will start becoming billboards and have advertising on them in the England/India test series ....

If Ritchie Benaud were here he'd say "It's just not cricket" I reckon!

i don not like it. The problem that can be created is that in cricket there is uneven bounce. It is also a problem with spinners. The only thing that can be asked is where did it pitch but I just don't like this one little bit. There is too much room for doubt.

I thought it was only being used for things like whether the ball pitched outside leg stump, and if there was an edge onto the pads. If it's used for most appeals the game will take forever

how stupid is.

Umpires are virtually coming obselete ball counters now.

And how much time is this going to waste. It will become like runouts were the umpire will very rarely make the decision himself and go to the video umpire just about anytime he thinks it could be out.

It's going to be good for those pitching outside leg stump & inside edges but I agree with you on the other stuff. If they just use pictures they won't be able to tell, if they use those laser guided tracking systems like Hawkeye then 'apparently' they will be able to tell exactly whether the ball would have hit,I'm yet to be fully convinced by this though & not every country will be able to afford the technology.
